It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Carson High Jazz Band and the Mile High Jazz Band present their eleventh annual combined concert, the Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 7:00 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City. The Extravaganza is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Carson City Band Association as a benefit for Carson High music programs.

Swing into the New Year with the Mile High Jazz Band at "Cool Jazz in January," a big-band event with vocalist Sheryl Adams at Comma Coffee on Tuesday, January 14, 7:30-9:30 p.m. Comma Coffee, 312 S. The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by several poets and readers in Carson City for an evening of big-band music and poetry on the theme "About Face."

Each poem will be followed by a related big-band tune. The event will be on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. The event will be held outdoors in the adjacent courtyard, weather permitting. Featured Band: Coming together from a variety of local projects and backgrounds, the five members of UNDER THE RADAR have created a composite tone that provides a niche sound of Jazz/Funk/Rock/Blues.

The summer will sizzle in blue hot notes this August in Carson City as the Mile High Jazz Band Association, local businesses, and music lovers prepare for "Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival."

Musician and educator John Shipley will present a lecture and demonstration with slides and audio samples on the history of rock n' roll, concluding with questions and comments from the audience and the raffle of an electric guitar. The talk will be on Tuesday, August 6, 7-8:30 p.m., at Brewery Arts Center Ballroom, 449 W. King Street, Carson City. Admission is free.

With tradition, community spirit and the launch of the Carson City jazz festival in mind, residents are welcome to a cool summer evening with music and sweet treats as the Carson City Historical Society hosts its annual Ice Cream Social this Saturday.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. and feature live music, mountain men and quilters. The event takes place at Foreman-Roberts House Park, 1207 North Carson Street. The event is free to get in and costs $3 to enjoy the ice cream and cookies.

Come join the fun on a cool summer evening when the Carson City Historical Society hosts their annual Ice Cream Social. The Ice Cream Social will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Foreman-Roberts House Park, 1207 North Carson St. The event is free, and it costs only $3.00 to enjoy the ice cream and cookies.

The Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Brewery Arts Center present pianists Alexander Tutunov, Lisa DeSpain, and Tristan Selzler in a Piano Summit on Sunday, August 4, 1:30 to 4:15 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street, Carson City. Admission is free.

Food For Thought would like to think all the people who came out and supported us at our Saddle Up For Kids Events. Friday, June 28th’s dinner at the Governor’s Mansion and Saturday, June 29th’s Carnival at Mills Park wouldn’t have been as successful if not for our volunteers!

The "Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" committee is seeking volunteers, sponsors, and program advertisers for the 10th annual festival, August 2-18.

The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers. It features more than 100 world class, regional musicians in over 40 performances and special programs at multiple venues in Carson City’s historic district, near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Beyond jazz, it includes bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.

The Mile High Jazz Band with guest vocalists Jakki Ford and Cindee LeVal will be joined by five poets and readers for "Farewell, Goodnight," a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry in Carson City.

The event will be on Tuesday, June 11, 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and under.

The program will feature award-winning poets and readers Krista Lukas, Terri Breeden, Rita Geil, Susan Sara Priest, and Amy Roby.

Mile High Jazz Band presents "Jazz in the Merry Month of May," a program of big-band jazz favorites in the Basie-Ellington tradition, featuring guest vocalista Jakki Ford and Cindee LeVal, on Tuesday, May 14, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St., Carson City.

Mile High Jazz Band presents Autumn Jazz, a program of big-band music with vocalist Sheryl Adams on Tuesday, October 9, 7:30-9:30 p.m. (new, earlier time) at Comma Coffee, 312 S. The Millennium Bugs, a five-piece combo affiliated with the Mile High Jazz Band, will perform on Friday, Sept. 7, 7:00 to 10 p.m., at Silver Oak Golf Club and Event Center, 1251 Country Club Drive, Carson City. Admission is free.
The musicians are Gil Linsley, trumpet; Dan Lancaster, sax, flute, clarinet; David Bugli, keyboard; Charles DiLaura, bass; and Neil Strocchio, drums. The group plays a variety of jazz styles for listening and dancing.  

Tried and True: An Evening of Big Band Jazz and Poetry will be on Sept. 11 at Comma Coffee in Carson City.

An exhibit of photos, album covers, and information about Jazz All-Stars of Northern Nevada, is on display at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop Street. The exhibit is part of Mile High Jazz Band's 2012 Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival. Although festival musical performances have ended, the exhibit will continue during library hours until August 31.

Expert guitarists Terry Scott, Steve Hayes, and Dave Bell provide music, conversation, and insights on playing guitar as part of a band. This is a great festival event for guitar students, musicians at all levels, and music fans who want to learn more about guitars and jazz. The event includes raffle drawing; grand prize is a guitar from the Guitar Center of Reno, custom adjusted by Terry Scott. They will wrap up the afternoon with a guitar jam.
