The program, Autumn Big-band Jazz, presents the 17-member Mile High Jazz Band playing favorite and new big-band songs. The concert celebrates Harmony for Humanity as part of World Music Days, an annual global event affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship, and shared humanity, inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl.

A day of remembrance, heroism that won’t be forgotten, today is Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Among Carson City featured events include a presentation by Nevada’s Homeland Security Advisor at the Nevada State Library, a National Day of Service outdoor cleanup at Silver Saddle Ranch and a 9/11 Memorial Service at Mills Park. The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Jakki Ford will be joined by seven poets and readers for "Changing Colors," a lively evening of big-band jazz and poetry. The event will be on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 7:30-9:30 p.m., in the courtyard adjacent to Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street.

The annual Jukebox International Film Festival will kick off with events Aug. 22 and run through Aug. 25 in Carson City. Film screenings will occur Aug. 23-24.

With less than a month until the doors open, Jukebox International Film Festival (JIFF), the only festival to feature films with music as a central driving theme, has announced that two bands appearing in two films screening at the festival will be appearing live in Carson City that week.

Due to heavy smoke settling on the area, the RoseBud's Dance Band's performance for Monday, Aug. 6, as part of the Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival has been moved to inside the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. The concert was originally planned for Comma Courtyard, but the performers want to present the event in a comfortable and healthy atmosphere.

The Mile High Jazz Band Association will have its Annual Membership Meeting on Friday, July 13, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of David & Elinor Bugli, 191 Heidi Circle, Carson City. The main purpose of the meeting is to elect Board members to fill terms that are opening.

Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce that 27 grants totaling over $104,500 were awarded to fund humanities programs across Nevada, including four in Carson City area.

It’s Navy Week in Carson City, and that means you’ll have a handful of opportunities to catch performances by various US Navy bands over the next few days. Enjoy their woodwind quintet this afternoon in the Dema Guinn Concourse of the Nevada State Museum. This evening find the US Navy Brass Band in McFadden Plaza performing alongside the talented kids who participated in the Mile High Jazz Camp.

The local library can be your best friend during summer vacation; Carson City celebrated the kick-off to their summer program on Sunday, while the library in Minden will host a party this evening to get the summer events started. Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, presents a five-day Jazz Camp with sessions for middle- and high-school musicians, weekdays June 13-19, in the band room at Carson Middle School, 1140 W. King St., in Carson City.

It’s Bike Month in Carson City, and the ladies’ Tuesday bike ride up Ash Canyon has returned for the season. You’ll need a helmet and a trail-ready bike if you’d like to join in. A hike up Goni Road with Muscle Powered will be worth the views and a good work-out.
