From Southern Nevada to Lake Tahoe and all parts above and in between, state, federal, local and volunteer firefighting resources have responded to numerous lightning- and human-caused wildfires across Nevada so far this year. The state has lost about 94,000 acres to wildfire this summer, which is significantly less than the five-year average of 428,084 acres a year.

After a record-breaking year of many major-sized snowstorms this last winter, the Davis Lake area, just north of Portola, California has some spectacular displays of colorful wildflowers blooming at the present time.

ALPINE LAKE, CALIF:
It will be planted this week by the California Department of Fish and Game.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports: The road is open, but there is still a LOT of snow around the lake. The lake is about 80% ice covered with some fishable water. Unfortunately, there is enough snow on the ice, you can't tell what is safe and what isn't. With this week's warm temps and some wind, next weekend may be a different story.

ALMANOR LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530) 365-7500 reports:
Water surface temperature is at 48 degrees. Water clarity has improved in most areas to 6.5 ft to 8 ft. The word is excellent.

It's hard to say whether the mythical adventure film "Thor" currently playing at the Fandango Galaxy in Carson City is the best adventure film since "Fast Five," or whether it is a messy marketing adaptation of Scandinavian myth with no logic and sense to the story other than luring the kids in.

There is an interesting discussion going on over at the Nevada Appeal site concerning the Nugget Project.

The story begins two week ago when Guy Farmer wrote a rather harsh column that slammed the Nugget Project. In response, last week there was a guest column by Michael Douglass criticizing Farmer's take on the subject.

Pea and marble-sized hail fell on Carson City shortly before 5 this afternoon. The weather pattern should continue through this evening, according to www.carsonweather.com and the National Weather Service in Reno.
According to the weather service, thunderstorms will produce abundant dry lightning for the lower elevations of northeastern California and western Nevada. Thunderstorms may have some moderate to locally heavy rain in the cores but fast storm motions will provide abundant dry lightning strikes on storm peripheries and the threat of numerous new fire starts.

The National Weather Service in Reno is tracking a band of strong thunderstorms heading toward Carson City and the Carson Range from the south this evening.
The west side of the Carson range can expect lightning, moderate rainfall amounts of around a half inch per hour, reducing visibility to less than three miles and strong gusty winds of around 40 to 50 mph, according to the weather service.
Areas mostly likely to be affected include Genoa, Spooner Summit, Lakeview and the Washoe Lake areas, as well as Glenbrook, Incline Village and the Mount Rose summit.

Well presented. Compelling. I do understand a call for a book repository. Not only for books but for anything recorded in any medium.

Carson City Supervisors this week will get a look at what some of their $400K-plus payment to the Carson Nugget will get them in planning for the future of downtown Carson City.
