Wine Walkers look forward to the first Saturday every month, where friends and family meet in downtown Carson City and delight each other with warm smiles that make forgetting the frigid temperatures a little easier.

The monthly tradition continues with the Downtown Business Association wine walk. Saturday, Jan. 2, the festivities begin at 1 p.m. This event happens rain, snow, or shine, so bundle up and head out to celebrate a new year with your friends and neighbors.

It’s the first weekend of the year, and so it’s time for the downtown wine walk. The monthly tradition is a great way to meet others from around town. Kids will want to head to the Community Center for the Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot. The best shooters in the state will advance to the national competition in Chicago for a chance at scholarship money.

Please join local artists who will offer their hand made, natural products and gifts to the community. Such Artists are Kathy Bliss with Gifts from Gaia, Karen Fillmore with Exquisite Handmade Journals and cards, Donna Dunfield and her beautiful handmade gemstone jewelry, Betty Franklin with intuitive card readings, and several others are joining this group every other week.

Please join us for an afternoon of jewelry making. This event is for the experienced, amateur, or the beginner. come and learn how to make simple jewelry projects such as earrings or simple necklaces or just observe. We will have experienced jewelry makers and us amateurs who enjoy learning from the experienced. There will be some supplies on hand in which you can use to make your own creation.

This is a free event. If like you can bring a potluck dish to share and if you drink BYOB.

Have you been naughty or nice this year? You’ll have no problem finding Jolly Old St. Nick this weekend. At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The countdown to Turkey Day has begun, and living in Carson City gives us plenty to be thankful for: Beautiful views, our own deer herd, great shops, yummy restaurants, talented actors, artists, and craftsmen, and wonderful people. For something less permanent, drop off a turkey at one of the contenders in the Salvation Army’s Battle of the Bars. Giving your time is valuable, too. The Muscle Powered Trash Mob meets once a month to help keep Carson’s trails clean and litter-free.

The Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County is seeking gifts for boys and girls ages 13 to 17 during their annual holiday toy drive.

Even with 82 locations around Carson City and Douglas County, including 27 of the Salvation Army’s ubiquitous red-kettle bell-ringers, Lt. Mark Cyr of the Salvation Army said teenagers are the most often overlooked population during holiday gift giving.

Ready for the weekend, Carson City? The weather should hold up on Saturday, but no promises on Sunday. Hit the slopes if you are so inclined, several Tahoe resorts have opened for the season. Runners should head out to Washoe Lake State Park for the first of the Be Bold, Run in the Cold series sponsored by Ascent Runs. If you prefer something warmer, head to Crossroads Lounge for their Grand Re-opening. It’s under new ownership and is sure to have something to keep you toasty.

Sierra Lutheran High School’s theater department is presenting Borrowed Time; break a leg. Mary Poppins returns for its second weekend at the Community Center. The Western Nevada Musical Theater Company has outdone themselves this season, so hurry and get tickets or you may miss out.

The Downtown Business Association is proud to host a downtown Wine Walk in Carson City every single month. That does mean that you get a mix of rain, shine, and snow throughout the year. Even though highs will be in the low 50s with plenty of sunshine, wear a fall sweater or jacket. You'll have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church in downtown Carson City at Telegraph and Division streets offers its annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday November 14 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. This year's bazaar features crafters who won a total of 19 ribbons at the 2015 Nevada State Fair. One of those crafters has created this year's queen-sized quilt in a traditional English Ivy block pattern in tones of red, white, and blue to be raffled.

Aware Systems, LLC, a local tech startup company working out of the Adams Hub for Innovation in Carson City, has thrown their hat into the ring in the hopes of winning the $25,000 prize package offered by Biggest Little Startup Competition in Reno.

An investigation that led to the arrest of a Carson City man on burglary and credit card fraud charges expanded Tuesday with a 25-year-old accomplice booked on felony charges, a Carson City sheriff’s detective said.

Chelsea Cribbins of Carson City was booked on charges of burglary, credit card fraud, conspiracy to use a credit card and conspiracy to obtain money, possession of stolen property and obtaining money under false pretenses.

A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday on multiple felony charges of burglary and fraudulent use of a credit card after allegedly breaking into a home, stealing credit cards, jewelry and other property and then using the credit cards at businesses, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
