Submitted by editor on Mon, 09/15/2014 - 11:42amThere’s something special about a good parody. I always get a laugh when something is turned on its head and shown in a new comedic light. Lately, I’ve realized I can do that with my own fallible actions. When I use humor on it, I render it powerless, shut up the nagging negatively in my head, and can actually laugh at myself.

Irish History and Humor for St. Patrick's Day
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 03/15/2014 - 9:41pmHere's a wee bit o' Irish history in honor of St. Patrick's Day, brought to you by the Gairin Celtic Musicians Tom and Mary Kay Aufrance. When did St. Patrick live?
There is a popular notion that St. Patrick, the Apostle of Ireland, was born sometime in the 4th or 5th Century at Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton. But now! Think about that! The village of Kilpatrick is on the River Clyde, which is in Scotland! If this is his true birthplace, then Ireland's patron saint would actually be Scottish! Begorrah!

Ralph Denny, Sr.: A good man among our common men
Submitted by editor on Fri, 02/28/2014 - 9:15amSaturday, I attended a funeral in a somewhat cheerful mood. It was a celebration of the life of Ralph Denny, Sr., and he would have wanted it upbeat.
Over 350 people filled Carson City’s First Christian Church’s sanctuary and foyer. Ralph was not a celebrity or public figure, and few such folks were there – just the heart and soul of our local communities in abundance.
He was a fine man with such a great and joyous impact over 50 years on so many folks that most came in the same mood as me: sad to see Ralph gone, but feeling so much richer for knowing him, and wanting to celebrate him.
