Get a jump on the festivities tonight with plenty of live music, two artists’ receptions, karaoke, comedy, or the Witchcraft and Wizardry Ball at the Boys and Girls Club. Join in solidarity with our famous city to the south by wearing blue and silver today and attending the Candlelight Vigil at the Capitol Building.

Today, I’m so excited to announce the launch of a major project. This is my final semester of graduate school at USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. I am starting research on my theory. I call it Crappertunity.

Labor Day weekend usually signifies the end of summer. Give it one heck of a send-off: the downtown Carson wine walk, rib cook-off in Sparks, Virginia City's Civil War Days, and the Heavenly Days carnival, music festival and car show in South Lake Tahoe are but a few of your options. Tonight, Improv at the Brewery Arts Center will get the belly laughs going. Unwind with some live music at Living the Good Life or some karaoke at the Spoke Bar and Grill. Proscenium Players, Inc. is having open auditions for the upcoming production Love Sick by John Cariani.

Love/Sick consists of 9 scenes about love and loss -- but mostly loss. Each scene tells the story of a couple at the crossroads of their relationship.

Casting for this show is a minimum of 2 Men and 2 Women between the ages of 20-65, with a maximum cast of 9 Men and 9 Women.

Young people like to sleep in, and so do some eccentric teachers for that matter, but it is time for everyone, parents included, to set that alarm clock and prepare for the 2017-2018 school year at Carson High School.

Ready to let the good times roll, rock around the clock, or twist again? The Silver Dollar Car Classic is throwing a party in the front parking lot of the Max Casino – plenty of hot rods, shiny chrome, and great music by Route 66 is in store. The 14th Annual Jazz and Beyond Music Festival opens tonight with a Garden Party at the historic Bliss Mansion across from the Governor’s Mansion. Bring a picnic and enjoy an art show, great live music and tours of the mansion.

Ken Beaton likes to say if you think there’s nothing to do in your home town, “check into a Battle Mountain hotel for three weeks one Tuesday evening.”
Beaton, a Carson City resident who was a business teacher at Battle Mountain High School from 1972 to 1975, is a big fan of the Lander County seat, which is located along Interstate 80 between Winnemucca and Elko.

Whether you are looking for a night on the town with friends or something for the whole family, Carson City has got you covered. The Friday night concerts in the McFadden Plaza will get everyone movin' and groovin' - especially when a band like Mojo Green hits the stage. Kids will love the Dive-in Movie night at the Carson Aquatic Center. Moana will be playing on their big, new LED screen. We are gathering together some of northern Nevada’s funniest dads to celebrate dad humor and recount hilarious stories of fatherhood.

The Brewery Arts Center is hosting Night of 1000 Dad Jokes: A Stand-Up Comedy Showcase by Dads on Tuesday, June 20 at 7 pm (doors at 6:30) at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, located at 511 W. King St. Carson City.

Ron’s high school freshman daughter Karyn is taking a 20th Century history and culture class that she enjoys, and she’s also decided she wants to be a film-maker. So, recently his family began a weekly movie series to chronicle the century, with an emphasis on how major events and developments affected people of each era.

The Carson Comedy Club will feature the hilarious comedy stylings of Milt Abel, who will headline Friday night's Carson City show at the Carson Nugget.

Actor, Comedian Kevin Farley will be appearing at the Carson Comedy Club, inside the Carson Nugget in Carson City for two shows on Friday, April 7 at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Farley is the main event at the Carson Nugget during a weekend packed with live entertainment.

The final day of March arrives on a Friday and that means full steam ahead with laughs at the Carson Comedy Club in Carson City with special guest Las Vegas comedy favorite Kathleen Dunbar.

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1976, will present Men of Worth on Friday night, March 17 in the Black Box Theater.

Men of Worth was formed in 1986 by Scotsman Donnie Macdonald and Irishman James Keigher who came together to perform Irish and Scottish folk music, combining traditional and contemporary styles.

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City will present the celtic sounds of “Noctambule” on Saturday, March 11 at 7pm in the Maizie Harris Jesse Black Box Theater.

The sun is shining on Carson City and all sorts of fun is blooming. It's the first Friday of February and things are heating up. Not literally, mind you, that silly groundhog predicted more winter is on its way. Plenty of live music tonight will have you moving and grooving: Mo'z Motley Blues at Living the Good Life, Pawnshop at Westside Pour House, and Decoy at the Max Casino to name a few. Several new art exhibits are opening tonight, so make the rounds to the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, the Carson City Visitor Center, and Paradise Salon Spa Wellness if you want to hit them all.

There’s no need to travel to the Big Apple to celebrate New York Fashion Week. Fashionistas can walk the red carpet at The Nevada State Museum as part of a three-week film festival organized by Mark Salinas, the city’s arts and culture coordinator.

Carson City history is fascinating, and there’s so much of it. But, much of it is gone and so much is untold. That is, until now.

A significant part of this city’s history is finally being told by Bonnie Boice Nishikawa, new historian/author, who has just published a chronicle of her experiences growing up in the Nevada State Orphans/Children’s Home or “Sunny Acres”, once very much a part of the downtown history between 1870-1992.

Coming in January are seven new courses offered by WNC Community Education in literature, art, drama and life-long learning. Linda Whitehill, Co-ordinator of Community Service and Continuing Education, announced the new offerings at WNC Carson campus to begin Friday, January 13. “We are delighted to add these unique courses to our program,” said Whitehill.

Get ready for a cold one. We get a short reprieve from the wet stuff, but the thermometer isn’t expected to inch above freezing today. Be safe on the roads out there, it could be icy. Tonight’s a great night for some local talent. Check out local songwriters at Comma Coffee and warm up with some hot cocoa, coffee or tea. A to Zen holds a weekly Open Mic, but mixes it up a little the first Friday of the month: dress to the nines and bring something for a potluck. The BAC Blowhards will have you in stitches at Improv Night at the Brewery Arts Center.
