Carson City man who reported text message threats arrested on felony child abuse warrant

A Carson City man who called authorities saying he was sent a threatening text message from a gang member, was arrested on a felony child abuse warrant.

According the the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Hot Springs Road on Jan. 20 after the man contacted authorities to report threats were being made.

Carson City authorities make meth-related arrests

Carson City authorities made three separate methamphetamine-related arrests earlier this week.

A 57-year-old South Lake Tahoe man faces a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine after being stopped on Wednesday at the corner of Carson Street and Hot Springs Road.

Officers spotted a Ford Ranger not driving in the travel lane and not having a red tail light. The driver, identified as Frederick Allan Russo, was stopped. Officers detected a smell of marijuana from his car and officers asked permission to search the vehicle and Russo agreed, according to the arrest report.

Silver and Snowflake Festival tops Carson City road report

The Carson City road report for the week includes some street closures for the annual Silver and Snowflake Festival on Thursday, the public works department reports.

The event and parade will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and will include the following street closures:
— Carson Street from Robinson Street to Fifth Street
— West Musser Street from North Carson Street to North Nevada Street

Carson City man hawks sister's wedding ring, buys smokes

Carson City authorities arrested an unemployed man who admitted to stealing his sister's wedding ring, pawning it at a shop and then used some of the money to buy cigarettes.

Gregory Lee Snelson, 30, of Carson City, faces a felony grand larceny charge. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

According to the arrest report, officers met the sister of Snelson at the Carson City Sheriff's Office. The woman told authorities that her wedding ring was missing from her room on Monday and said she and her husband searched the home but couldn't find it.

Toastmasters Annual Area 22 Speech Contest

The best speakers in the Carson City area will be chosen Saturday September 18, when three local Toastmasters clubs conduct the annual Area 22, Division B, District 39 speech contest.

The event will be conducted at 1301 Old Hot Springs Road, beginning at 10:00am, and the public is invited. The winner will be chosen from among 6 contestants for the Table Topics contest and 6 for the Humorous Speech contest. The winners of these contests will go on and compete in the Division B contest in Reno on October the 2nd.

Carson City road construction report for today through Sunday

Here is the Carson City road construction report for today, Monday, through Sunday, Aug. 15. With the next phase of the freeway project by the Nevada Department of Transporation, the following closures are planned:

— Valley View Drive has been permanently closed between Edmonds Drive and Line Drive.

— Koontz Lane will be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive until January 2011.

The Roop Street widening project is continuing and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. The following impacts are expected this week:

Carson City man who attempted to register as a sex offender arrested at sheriff's office

A Carson City man who came to the sheriff's office front counter to register as a sex offender, was arrested on Thursday after being wanted on two felony fugitive from justice warrants out of Lassen County.

David Henry Duke, 25, whose street address listed on the arrest report as living in the 700 block of Hot Springs Drive in Carson City, came to the sheriff's office at 1:40 Thursday afternoon to register as a sex offender, according to the arrest report. A wants and warrants check was conducted on Duke by the sheriff's office civil division, according to the arrest report.

Carson City deputies arrest man with felony robbery, credit card fraud warrants

A 23-year-old transient was arrested Saturday and faces several charges including warrants for felony robbery, fraudulent use of a credit card, and uttering a fictitious bill.

Christopher Hugh Trappe, was arrested at North Carson and William streets at about 11:25 p.m.
According to the arrest report, deputies working with the Tri-County Gang Unit were dispatched to look for a four-door sedan with unknown Nevada license plates occupied by two men with shaved heads who left the area of Russell Way and Long street, displaying a "red rag" which is used to provoke gang activity.

Carson City man charged with obstruction after drunken tirade against officers

A 23-year-old unemployed Carson City man was arrested after allegedly obstructing an officer when deputies found him and a woman lying in the middle of the road near a bar at 1475 Old Hot Springs Road.

Officers found the man sitting next to the woman, propping her up as she continually fell over, according to a deputy report. Officers asked the man what had happened, and the man said "I ain't driving. I don't need to tell you anything."

"Slam Dunk"partnership between Silver State High School and City Parks and Recreation

A plan hatched between city parks and Silver State High School appears to be building momentum. The plan seeks to have the city give to the school what it needs (free land) in exchange for the school giving access to the Parks and Recreation what it needs (big new gymnasium and more soccer fields).

The city Parks and Recreation Commission is asking the Board of Supervisors to give Silver State High School ten acres of city land near the southwest corner of Centennial Park and in return the school will build a big new gym and soccer fields that the public will have full access to after hours and on weekends. No money changes hands and both get what they want.

Sheriff’s deputies Dan Ochsenschlager and Rick Ennis this afternoon raced to a report of a four year old latino boy who was found by his grandmother slumped over his bed and not breathing.
