Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak issued a statement in regards to reported compliance numbers from the Division of Industrial Relations Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Of the 204 businesses observed by the State on July 2, 49 percent complied with the face covering requirements. Fifty percent of bars and restaurant bar areas visited by officials were found to be in compliance, with the remaining establishments including automobile sales and maintenance, gyms, hair and nail establishments, and tattoo shops demonstrating a 61 percent rate of compliance.

As we head into the July 4 holiday, local law enforcement and fire agencies are warning residents not to ignite fireworks of any kind.

Not only are fireworks potentially dangerous and could start wildfires, private use of fireworks is illegal in Carson City. The Carson City Sheriff's Department will enforce the law to the fullest extent, as lighting fireworks is a misdemeanor offense.

Heading into the July 4 holiday weekend, there’s a number of activities around the Carson City region to celebrate. New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to bring a mask and practice social distancing.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting seven new positive cases and three additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region on Thursday, July 2, 2020. This brings the total number of cases to 361, with 258 recoveries, seven deaths and 96 cases active.

Heading into the holiday period, average summer temperatures and sunny conditions will continue through Independence Day weekend around the Carson City region and at Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service.

The July 4 holiday weekend at Lake Tahoe will look and feel different this year with basin firework shows canceled and social distancing safety practices required on beaches, campgrounds and along hiking trails. CARSON CITY — Independent contractors and gig workers eligible for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program can now begin filing weekly claims online, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation announced Saturday.

Nevada’s casinos could welcome back customers as soon as June 4, Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Friday afternoon.

Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe is reopening over the Memorial Day weekend and having a four-day locals-emphasis celebration after being closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The event has been scaled back from previous years as city and state officials grapple with phase 2 reopening, which allows second-home property owners living outside the area to return to the California side of South Lake Tahoe, but not allowing for non-essential travel and visitors.

Christmas bells would normally be ringing when Carson City resident Chef Don Pepe holds his annual holiday fundraiser for Pets of the Homeless, a Carson City-based 501(c)3 national non-profit that raises money to provide food, veterinary care and other essentials for the pets of homeless persons.

But 2020 is different.

Save Mart Stores has donated $2,051 to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center in Carson City for emergency food relief for families.

As Women’s History Month comes to an end, the Carson City Chamber Board of Directors announces the recognition of ten exceptional women who have been — and will continue to be — important in the history of this city.

Switchboards at the University of Nevada, Reno lit up Thursday after the university issued an unusual directive: all students living in on-campus residence halls who have the ability to move back home should be packed up and gone within the next six days.

On a recent holiday weekend, hundreds of visitors snapped selfies with a two-legged bear while sledding at Lake Tahoe. The “Take Care” bear mingled with families reminding them to throw away their broken sleds, rather than leaving them littered on the snow.

The first European to see America, so far as we know, was a Norseman named Barney, somewhere around A.D. 986. Barney was wading ashore, holding his shoes, when he encountered some Native Americans who were not in a good humor that particular morning, and they gave Barney the bum's rush. So he absquatulated (cut stick) in his dinghy, and rowed like crazy for home, anywhere but America.

For those returning from the three-day holiday weekend, Tuesday is shaping up to be a great day around the capital city. Muscle Powered will host morning and evening walks; it is the final day of early voting for the Nevada caucus, plus there's the Nevada Artists Association Judged Winter Show at its gallery in the Brewery Arts Center, classes at Yaple's Ballroom, meetings and more.
