The excitement at Carson High School right now is off the chart as every student prepares for Homecoming and all the fun and festivities that come along with its arrival. Beginning at 1 p.m., every student in the school hustled to the CHS big gym to prepare for and celebrate everything from the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes to the upcoming crowning of the 2016 Homecoming Queen and King.

Something which might not draw a great deal of attention around CHS is the Senior Sunrise, because how many 17-year-olds want to get up even earlier in the morning than they already have to, especially on a Wednesday knowing full well they will not be able to run home first and shower before school begins. That would be crazy, right.

We found this young Gamble's quail had gotten stuck in our greenhouse while looking for a nesting spot. They are not known for standing still for photos, so I took one quickly before he made his exit.

February 7 is best known as ‘Super Bowl Sunday’ and there are plenty of parties going on around town to help you cheer for your favorite team. As we await the arrival of final rules and regulations from the Nevada Gaming Commission regarding Sports Betting Investment Groups from SB443, the NGC sent out an announcement regarding a position that it believes DFS to be considered gambling.

UPDATE THURSDAY: Neil Andresen, 60, of Moundhouse who was reported missing by the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Wednesday, has been located is safe, authorities said Thursday.
He was reported missing after not being seen or heard by family and friends since Dec. 9 when he was presumably on his way to Carson City from Moundhouse.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help regarding the disappearance of Neil Gene Andresen, also known as "Geno" a Moundhouse man who was last seen leaving his home Dec. 9 and was presumably headed for Carson City.

The 27th annual Nevada Writers Hall of Fame welcomes two new inductees, poet Shaun Griffin and folklorist and historian Ronald M. James. This year’s ceremony will take place Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 in the Milt Glick Ballroom on the fourth floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union. Alicia Barber, author of Reno’s Big Gamble, will be awarded with the 2014 Silver Pen Award at the ceremony.
