With the arrival of spring, the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) reminds kayakers, canoe users and paddle boaters of all kinds that they are subject to the same equipment requirements and boating regulations as every other boat on the water.

Curtis Robinson caught a 31½-inch cutthroat trout at East Canyon Reservoir this spring.
The fish Curtis caught is a new Utah state record—it's the largest cutthroat trout ever caught and released in Utah.

Curtis caught the 31½-inch "cruiser cut" at the reservoir in northern Utah using a handmade marabou jig.
"That's the fun part," Curtis said, "catching it on something you made yourself."

It's hard to say whether the mythical adventure film "Thor" currently playing at the Fandango Galaxy in Carson City is the best adventure film since "Fast Five," or whether it is a messy marketing adaptation of Scandinavian myth with no logic and sense to the story other than luring the kids in.

That youth shoot will be held at the Centennial Park Archery Range (east of the Eagle Valley Golf Course), just off U.S. 50.

Carson City area walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer during the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

This celebration brings together numerous groups and individuals concerned about cancer in a unified effort to fight back.

Teams of enthusiastic residents will gather at Centennial Field for an overnight relay from 10am July 16th to 10am July 17th. The event celebrates anyone who has battled cancer and their caregivers and also remembers loved ones lost.

OK Gang, it’s almost time to have fun in the High Sierras once again. In just 10 days on April 30, the 2011 fishing season will open for applicable lakes, reservoirs, streams, creeks and rivers in the State of California, plus all of the applicable waters in Inyo and Mono Counties. That season will then remain open until Tuesday, Nov. 15.

The Brown Bite Continues! More Browns are beginning to move in to areas along the east shore following the Pond Smelt.
On recent trips we have seen pretty solid numbers of Browns, some days having to cover more water than on others, but the fish are there.

Parks 4 Paws presents its 3rd Annual Bark Whine and Dine fun raiser event, Hosted by Mayor Bob Crowell. Featured events include food from Local's BBQ, microbrews, raffles, a silent auction and music by CHS Link Crew. Cost is $25 per person. The Silver City Community Partners, formerly known as the Silver City Task Force, has announced a full summer schedule of community events and programs. The tightknit community of Silver City works together to offer a free summer youth program, monthly community dinners, cultural events, a volunteer library, cooking lessons, and a community garden.

I did not have the luck to see the first three versions of the "Scream" franchise, so I can't compare "Scream 4" currently  playing at the Fandango Galaxy multiplex in Carson City. But I suspect this version is just as bloody as the earlier three. Where's the Red Cross when  you really need it?

Mark your calendars for April 24-26 for the highly-popular John Riordan Invitational Fishing Derby. John is the Assistant General Manager for the Carson Station Hotel and Casino in Carson City, and this will be the 14th version of his annual, fun-filled, fishing event at Topaz Lake.
His derby is traditionally co-headquartered at the Topaz Lake Marina and the Topaz Lake Lodge at Topaz Lake, which lies along the Nevada-California state line about 40 miles south of Carson City.

A Show & Shine will be at the Carson City Harley Davidson on Saturday, April 16 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is presented by Capital Classic Productions. All cars, trucks and motorcycles welcome. The Show & Shine costs $20 for participants/entrants. The public showing is free. Proceeds go to support the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. All food donations stay in Carson City. Music, food, vendors and raffles are all part of the fun.
