Ski season has changes in store at Heavenly Mountain Resort

With a new boss at Heavenly, onetime ski bum Pete Sonntag, things are humming there as they prepare for the upcoming season. I taught skiing there for several years and with all the new stuff and improvements going on I sometimes wish I were back on the hill there  — even if they never improve the ski school facilities are Boulder Base.

Sonntag is a real skier (and boarder) who was on the Vail demo team, so you can be sure he’ll be out on the hill checking things out himself.

Carson City road report for the week includes Carson High homecoming parade details

Here's the Carson City road construction report for Monday Oct. 4 through Sunday Oct. 10.
Before we get into the list, a shout-out is in order to all the motorists out there who've kept their cool over the past few months. Bottlenecks and delays are never any fun. If anything, the local road projects, including the Roop Street quagmire, may have taught us to get up a little earlier and exercise some patience, which is a good thing. Mindfulness can never do a person wrong.

With that, here's what's lined up for this week:

Carson Valley Inn and Bodines casinos
aim for $15,000 donation to Carson Tahoe Cancer Center

For the last six years, the Carson Valley Inn has been the site of the Bunko for Breast Cancer fundraiser — a boisterous evening of fun that raises five figures each year for services to cancer patients in the Carson/Douglas area and beyond.

Jerry Vance - Fitness on The Wire

Physical Fitness - Quality of Life

Being physically fit gives you the ability to enjoy life. It's called "quality of life".

With so many new types of exercise available maybe it’s time to define quality of life and how you achieve it. When you work on physical fitness, you enhance the physiological capacity of your body. You increase the ability to stay with a task longer and increase the range and weight of the task. Your heart will beat slower with more blood behind each beat, and generate more oxygen to your muscles. Who cares? You should!
