V&T Railway holds auditions for 2019 Polar Express at Carson City Eastgate Depot

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway will hold auditions for the 2019 Polar Express season on Thursday, Sept. 5 and Friday, Sept. 6 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 7 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Eastgate Depot in Carson City. The railway is looking for actors, actresses and singers, age 13 and up to play roles from the popular movie including stewards and conductors, elves and Santa Claus.

Carson Senators football crush Lower Lake Trojans in season opener

The Carson Senators football team cruised to a 57-28 victory over the Lower Lake Trojans on Friday.

Carson’s potent offense stole the show for most of the contest. The Senators rushed for 359 yards and 137 passing yards.

Sierra Lutheran XC opens Season

The Sierra Lutheran XC team kicked off the 2019 XC Season at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. The Falcons got solid performances from Christi Kennedy (36th Girls Freshman), Sierra Carranza (38th Girls Sophomore), Aaron Waite (47th Boys Sophomore), Will Webster (39th Boys Sophomore), Andreas Gilson (47th Boys Junior), and Jacob Tack (50th Boys Junior). Sierra Lutheran will run next Friday at the Nevada Twi-light Classic in Reno. Andreas Gilson is the runner pictured.

Carson City woman arrested after allegedly strangling and pulling a gun on business partner

A 48-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 3100 block of Highway 50 E. Friday night for felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery first.

Shannon Rae Atkins was arrested after deputies received a report of a battery that occurred between Atkins and her business partner.

Kicking up dirt: Amateur and Pro dirt bikers show their skills this Friday and Saturday at Fuji Park

For the third year in a row, over 250 dirt bike racers will gather in Carson City at Fuji Park for their chance to win a $10,000 prize at the Fuji Park Flat Track dirt bike races this Saturday.

Reader John Green Jr. snapped photos of some of the riders practicing Friday afternoon to get ready for the big race.

Amateur riders will show their skills throughout the day, and professional races will begin tonight and tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Responders called to accident with injury in front of S. Carson restaurant, traffic blocked

Dispatch advised two vehicles were involved in an accident near the 3300 block of S. Carson Street just after 3 p.m. on Friday. Injuries were reported.

All three northbound lanes are blocked and NV Energy advised they had one of their employees directing traffic.

Sheriff's Office deputies and first responders are currently en route.

Motorists should avoid the area if possible. Traffic delays are to be expected. All traffic northbound is currently blocked as of 3:09 p.m.

First responders called to vehicle accident at Nye and College

UPDATE 10:40 a.m.: A tow was called for two vehicles at the scene.

According to dispatch, first responders were called to the area of Nye and College Parkway just before 10:30 a.m. on Friday on reports of a vehicle crash.

While he's here in August and September, he hopes to draft a 70-minute, spoken, dramatic monologue for a male performer about carpentry, family, and faith.
