Weather Service: Thunderstorms developing throughout western Nevada

THURSDAY UPDATE: Low pressure approaching northeast California and western Nevada will bring another chance for showers and thunderstorms today, with a few showers or storms possibly lingering into Friday. Dry weather and below average temperatures are expected for the weekend with gusty winds Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Reno says thunderstorms have begun to Wednesday afternoon, mainly near and east of US-395 and south of I-80.

This is an event like no other, where agencies who work in areas of public health and safety gather at Mills Park to meet with Carson City residents. This event features 3 hours of information booths, games, demonstrations, food and fun. Also happening Tuesday is a free robotics mini-camp for kids in nearby Silver City, Reciprocity Inc. will host a fundraiser at Rustically Divine, there's the Culinary Traveler’s Club's Polynesian Paradise featured at Bleu Café; the Carson City Classic Cinema Club will feature a Sci-Fi favorite at the BAC, plus fitness outings and more. Washoe County Sheriff's Office arrest Geiger Grade Armed Robbery Suspect

Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam announced this morning that deputies arrested the suspect in an early morning armed robbery of a 7-Eleven store with help from a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 team.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Friday morning, August 2, 2019 deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the 7-Eleven store located on Geiger Grade Road near King Lane.

Carson City deputies arrest pair following low-speed pursuit for possession of a stun gun

A 47-year-old Carson City man and a 48-year-old Carson City woman were arrested in the area of Carson and S. Winnie Friday evening on multiple charges including felony possession of a stun gun by prohibited persons.

First responders called to multiple car pile up on Highway 50

Carson City deputies and first responders were called to the intersection of Highway 50 and 395 at around 3:15 p.m. on Friday afternoon after witnesses state a vehicle ran a ted light, causing a vehicle collision of four or more vehicles.

The east bound lane has been closed and drivers should use caution in the area.

There are no injuries reported at this time, though deputies advised there appeared to be significant damage at the scene.

Hot August Nights Kickoff Rally cruises to downtown Virginia City

Hundreds of attendees and classic cars packed downtown Virginia City during the Hot August Nights Kickoff Rally on Saturday.

The first Hot August Nights began on Aug. 1, 1986 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, and Virginia City brought a sense of nostalgia back to the historic mining town.

Carson City deputies arrest Calif. woman, Mound House man for possession of drugs, firearms

A 51-year-old Hollister, Calif. woman and a 54-year-old Mound House man were arrested in the 3600 block of Goni Road for felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

A night of fact or fiction is coming to Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City. Mike Thomas will provide his take on the legitimacy of the “Legend of King Arthur” on Friday, Aug. 2 at the observatory.

Speaking of “Superhumans,” a night later on Saturday, Aug. 3, Thomas will kick off the observatory’s star party with a slide show presentation of a variety of real people who have abilities who can only be described as “super.”

Nevada State Museum to debut replica Carson City Mint half dollar

Coins with the famous “CC” mark of the Carson City Mint are coveted by coin collectors and those minted in 1870 — the first year of operation for the Mint — rank highly among them in terms of historic and monetary value.

On Thursday, the very coin press that minted the original will be recreating replicas of the 1870 Liberty Seated Half Dollar in the same building that produced the originals almost 150 years ago.

Two transients, a male and female, were arrested in the 3000 block of Oak Ridge Drive early Saturday morning, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Tempest on the tee box – Rain suspends play at the Barracuda

Reno hasn’t seen measurable precipitation since May. That is, until the Barracuda Championship began. Rain and lightning suspended round one on Thursday, and several violent deluges Friday afternoon further delayed and then suspended round two.
