Heading into the weekend, there’s an abundance of activities around the capital city region over the next three days. The Brewery Arts Center hosts a female version of "The Odd Couple." Carson City's Greenhouse Project is hosting a lunch and dinner fundraiser toward a healthier State Capitol. Dale Poune will perform at Bella Vita Bistro, plus comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Nevada Caucus on Saturday, an open house at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, a Latin-themed concert at the community center and more. Ride will normally consist of two loops which are 10-15 miles long each. The ride pace will vary depending on rider level, but will usually be about a 12-16 mph pace.

Happenings around the capital city Thursday include a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, the launch of Thursday trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike at Linear Ditch, plus Soroptimist International of Carson City hosts "Celebrating Women Helping Women" at the Carson Nugget. There's also a joint meeting of the school board and the board of supervisors, and a documentary viewing and discussion of "Screenagers" hosted by the Carson City School District. A special joint meeting between the Carson City School District Board of Trustees and the Carson City Board of Supervisors will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The Thursday, Feb. 20 hike is at Linear ditch, central near Fremont Elementary School. Meet on Cardinal Way off of Saliman Road.

Thursday hikes start at 3 p.m. and are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more. Water and closed-toed shoes are required.

Hat and poles recommended If weather conditions are bad hikes will be cancelled.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities over the next three days. Restaurants in Carson City will host Valentine’s Day specials on Friday. The Carson City Celtic Music series will be at the Brewery Arts Center on Saturday featuring Fortunate Strangers. Happenings around the capital city include a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, Valentine-themed activities at Carson Mall, a Muscle Powered hike at Clear Creek Trail, Pilates at the Brewery Arts Center, the second of three Carson City school zone modification meetings and more.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, we can expect sunny skies and continued highs in the mid-50s. Midweek events include a Dayton chamber breakfast with the founder of the Desert Pigs cleanup nonprofit group. Plus there's the first of 5 days of Valentine-themed festivities that begins at Carson Mall; an open house at Bethlehem Lutheran School, a CASA information hour, a Carson City School District meeting regarding proposed middle school zone modification. Plus there's a yoga class, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested on three alternative sentencing violations as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and driving without a valid license.

According to the report, Special Enforcement Team deputies were patrolling in an unmarked police vehicle in the area of William and Stewart when they witnessed a man seated upright in the driver seat of a vehicle who continued to duck up and down in the driver’s seat.

The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

The next Carson City School Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street beginning at 7 p.m.

Topics for discussion include proposed changes to school social workers, suicide prevention, a proposed salary increase for the superintendent and more.

With anticipation of the modification to middle school attendance zones within the Carson City School District, district officials and administrators are inviting parents and families to attend one of three meetings to discuss the intricacies of the rezoning as well as variance options for families with older siblings already attending a specific middle school.

Heading into the Super Bowl weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the monthly downtown Carson City wine walk, plus karaoke at Bella Vita Bistro and Y-NOT Saloon. The Forest Service begins its first “Ski With a Ranger” at Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Mountain Resort on Friday. Combined with championship football festivities on Sunday, the Silver State is in store for a wild, good time.

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Recognition will come at Tuesday’s school board meeting. NBCT is widely considered to be the highest professional recognition for educators and includes a five percent pay increase in acknowledgement of accomplished teaching.

Heading into Tuesday, activities around the capital city area include a meeting of the Carson City School Board, a gathering of the Carson City Toastmasters at Max Casino, a free presentation in Gardnerville that focuses on understanding Alzheimer's and dementia, plus a showing of the documentary about social media, "Like" in Reno, art exhibitions, and more.

The last Carson City School Board meeting of January will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street beginning at 7 p.m.

On the docket for discussion will be the rezoning of Fremont Elementary-zoned students for Eagle Valley, recognition of teachers, an update on the elementary reading program, and more.
