Season kickoff Saturday for Carson High Senators
Submitted by Kyle Kunz on Wed, 08/27/2014 - 8:28pmIt’s only three days away from the first kickoff of the season for the Carson High School football squad. The first game will get underway Saturday against Clayton Valley High School in Concord, Calif., at 8 p.m. That game will be a very good game if Carson can step up to the plate. Clayton Valley is a very good team; however, with head coach Blair Roman’s focus on keeping the team in amazing physical condition and his sharp eye on what Clayton Valley does both offensively and defensively, I think it is a very achievable task to not only compete but win too.

Ralph Denny, Sr.: A good man among our common men
Submitted by editor on Fri, 02/28/2014 - 9:15amSaturday, I attended a funeral in a somewhat cheerful mood. It was a celebration of the life of Ralph Denny, Sr., and he would have wanted it upbeat.
Over 350 people filled Carson City’s First Christian Church’s sanctuary and foyer. Ralph was not a celebrity or public figure, and few such folks were there – just the heart and soul of our local communities in abundance.
He was a fine man with such a great and joyous impact over 50 years on so many folks that most came in the same mood as me: sad to see Ralph gone, but feeling so much richer for knowing him, and wanting to celebrate him.

Carson City public safety reminder: Driving while using a cell phone is illegal
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 01/04/2014 - 11:33pmDeputies see it everyday, drivers talking on their cell phones or texting while driving. What’s the big deal? Well for one thing, it is illegal but, it also distracts you from concentrating on the roadway and traffic ahead of you.
Five seconds to send a quick text is equal to the length of a football field when driving 55 miles per hour. That’s how long your eyes are off the road. The average text conversation lasts about three minutes.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 10/24/2013 - 2:49pmChampion hot wings served up tangy Buffalo style will find a home in Carson City beginning next month when the Buffalo Wild Wings franchise opens its doors on South Carson Street.
To be sure there's a packed grand opening at the sports bar and restaurant being built at 3815 South Carson Street, the owners are offering quite an incentive: Free wings for a year for the first 100 people who walk in the door at 11 a.m. Nov. 18.

High School Football: Carson capitalizes to win over Damonte Ranch
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 10/05/2013 - 4:56amFor three quarters Friday night at Carson High, everything was normal. Two evenly matched Sierra League football teams had played a respectable, if slightly mundane, game, with the Senators finally pulling ahead thanks to two mistakes in the Damonte Ranch kicking game.
But there were no fireworks on the field to match those set off at halftime during Carson’s homecoming celebration.
