Season kickoff Saturday for Carson High Senators
It’s only three days away from the first kickoff of the season for the Carson High School football squad. The first game will get underway Saturday against Clayton Valley High School in Concord, Calif., at 8 p.m. That game will be a very good game if Carson can step up to the plate. Clayton Valley is a very good team; however, with head coach Blair Roman’s focus on keeping the team in amazing physical condition and his sharp eye on what Clayton Valley does both offensively and defensively, I think it is a very achievable task to not only compete but win too.
Carson High's first home game will be Sept. 5 against the Lancers of McQueen. It’s no secret in football that the entire team has to play very well to be successful, but Coach Roman will look for Colby Brown (projected to be one of the top running backs in the league) and Nolan Shine’s multi-dimensional abilities at the quarterback position to lead the offense. The defense will be built around returning starters: Brady Rivera, Jesse Medina and Asa Carter.
The biggest obstacle in the way of Carson is almost undoubtedly going to be Reed. Carson does not play them in the regular season, but if they do meet in the playoffs Coach Roman has already began planning the perfect game plan to take them out. “It will always boil down to slowing their offense down and balancing the run and pass game on our offense,” Roman said, “We’ll need to tackle extremely well, and play physical because they do the same.”
There is no doubt Roman knows exactly what he has to do to be successful. The simple goal list for the season is: beat our rival, win our league, earn the right to play for a regional title, ultimately earn the right to play for a state title, and last but not least, have no regrets after the season is over.
