I hope you’ve all been driving safely on the icy roads, and I also hope you enjoyed the bit of sun we got yesterday! It’ll be another beautiful winter day, and say goodbye to the snow in the next few days because highs will be around 50 degrees for the next week.

Greenhouse Project dinner fundraiser, comedy, live music and more: Carson City region readies for upcoming weekend

The Union will host a dining fundraiser for the Greenhouse Project on Friday, and artist Jakota Wass performs at Bella Vita Bistro. The 43rd annual Wild Sheep Show will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention. Comedian Marc Yaffee headlines the Carson Comedy Club on Saturday with much more in store for the weekend! Forest Service firefighter from Lake Tahoe deployed to Australia; BLM sends Carson City fuels program manager
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 01/06/2020 - 3:30pmUPDATE: The Bureau of Land Management says it has deployed six from Nevada who are helping with firefighting efforts in Australia. Two are already there, with four on the way including a Fuels Program Manager from Carson City who is serving as a plans chief. Other personnel are from the Battle Mountain District, an assistant Superintendent for the Silver State Hotshots, a helicopter supervisor from the Elko District and an Engine Captain from Southern Nevada.

Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! I started with this “The raging fires in California are a terrible reminder of the wildfire risk of living in the urban-wildland interface.” Now, 16 years later, that initial sentence bears repeating. With climate change, global warming we are seeing hotter, more intense, faster spreading wildfires than ever before. Fuels such as brush, grasses and trees are tinder dry everywhere, including Northern Nevada.
Veterans Day 2019: Remembering Stories of Honor That Can Inspire Us Today

El Dorado County sheriff's deputy shot and killed in line of duty, two suspects in custody

Deputy Brian Ishmael, a four-year veteran of the department, died as a result of the shooting. Two people are in custody.

Drone study aims to improve Carson City school zone bicycle, pedestrian safety

The Carson City School District is working with Carson City government officials to conduct a safety review study designed to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety in school zones.

Aviation Legend Stops By Carson City Airport to visit old friend

Lacy and Byard met in the mid 50s while Byard worked for Gulf Stream. Friday they got to meet and tell old stories. Both men have spent their lives expanding aviation.
