Good day Carson City and welcome to Wednesday, May 8, 2019. We're looking at another day of sunshine and afternoon highs in the low 70s. We have activities throughout the region today, including a history presentation in Dayton, a Holocaust memorial service at the Governor's Mansion, art classes, live jazz and more. We want to send a big birthday "shoutout" to our outdoor editor emeritus Don Quilici, who turns 85 today. Don and his wife, Elaine, remain active, maintain healthy walks and hikes around the region and have plans for yet another Alaska outback trip this summer. Happy Birthday Q!

Heading into Tuesday, May 7, 2019 we are looking at another picture perfect day for a morning or evening stroll with Carson City's own Muscle Powered and a bevy of events, including a chamber digital marketing workshop, Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City Chapter meeting and open house, family movie and craft night at the Carson City Library, a filmmaking discussion followed by a showing of the classic "12 Angry Men" at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall and more. As we head into the first day of the work week, Monday, May 6, 2019, we're looking at sunshine and a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms with a daytime high in the low 70s, according to weather service forecasters. Happy Sunday Carson City! It'll be another warm day today with a high of 76 degrees and a gentle breeze. On the books today we have a Tour of Carson City hosted by Muscle Powered as a part of National Bike Month, a dog agility trial, art showings, a family book reading at the Carson City Library and more.

Here's what's happening Saturday:

Zumba is a dance form and aerobics fitness program. Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic Latin and pop music from countries around the world. The choreography incorporates hip hop, soca, samba, salsa, meringue and mambo.

Squats and lunges are also included. Students should wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes, and bring a towel, water and a positive attitude! No prior dance experience is required - Zumba is about making friends, getting a workout, and enjoying yourself!

R.I.P.P.E.D is for every-body & every fitness level.

R.I.P.P.E.D. is designed to help everybody meet their ultimate fitness goals in a super fun group exercise environment. This 1 hour class combines Resistance, Interval, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance, core and offers a very important Diet program on the Rippedplanet website. R.I.P.P.E.D is for every-body & every fitness level. Cardio, Weights Fun & Done! Students should plan to eat a snack or small meal about 45 minutes before class, bring a water bottle, towel, and wear exercise clothes and shoes. This is an adult class, great for both men and women, and students aged 14 and up.

What a week it was Carson City, and it isn't even over yet. Heading into Friday, May 3, 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s. There's a host of activities Friday and, looking ahead, a bevy of fun Saturday including a Mother's Day craft fair at the Carson City Community Center, a Star Wars themed bicycle safety day, a wine, cheese and dessert ride aboard the V&T, an early opening of the downtown farmer's market, the May Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, a memorial walk, presentations, comedy, live music and more. Oh what a difference the sunshine makes. The second day of May in Carson City will bring warming temperatures with a daytime high in the low 70s. The event lineup Thursday includes a law enforcement memorial at the capitol complex, a hike at Clear Creek, art showings, a lecture on the historic Transcontinental Railroad, live music and more. Truly a springtime to remember in Carson City as we say goodbye to April, which leaves us with a spontaneous final chill, and hello to Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Temperatures should head back up into the low 60s by afternoon. Looking ahead there's art showings and painting workshops, a C-Hill hike to see the firefighting sheep, a school district strategic planning meeting, a Salsa dance class, and "Ideas on Tap," a monthly series of interactive conversations at The Union Eatery and Taphouse.

The good news is the weather change is short-lived and should be out of here by Wednesday afternoon. Headed into Saturday, April 27, 2019 we're looking at another picture-perfect spring weather day and cool overnight temperatures. There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. In an era where students are more comfortable communicating behind a screen rather than face-to-face, teaching Physical Education can be more than challenging at times. It seems that each year there are fewer students who enjoy physical activity. This year has been no different.
