Western Nevada College, working with a core of performers from the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company, has created a virtual choir — Broadway Rising! — to share the power and beauty of Broadway during these times when live performance is no longer possible.

CARSON CITY — Nearly two dozen Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students claimed more than 40 top-10 awards including five state championships at the Nevada State Business Leadership Conference.

CHS FBLA students just finished competing in the Nevada State Business Leadership Conference. Originally, the event was scheduled to be held in Reno, but had to be held digitally due to Covid-19.

In the current climate of business closures, Casino Fandango has created a way to connect with, and lift the spirits of patrons with a free virtual game for Players Club members as well as the general public to play each week.

The Flip a Chip game will be released on Monday, April 27th.

CARSON CITY — In today’s new coronavirus, COVID-19, world of home-based work and child education, many are turning to online resources to keep diverse age groups engaged.

One of the most extensive sources of online materials is based right here at the Carson City Library, offering a collection of online resources from audiobooks to adult learning and picture books to magazines.

Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered — not asked — all nonessential businesses in the state to shut down and cease operations at midnight Friday as part of a monthlong closure to avoid further spread of the novel coronavirus.

But what exactly is an “essential” or “nonessential” business?

On Wednesday, the Nevada Health Response Center (NHRC) released the COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Initiative listing of essential services and sectors and non-essential services and sectors. The release includes social distancing measure.

I have spent the last week helping businesses communicate and innovate during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a little lull in my meetings, I turn to you in Carson City to provide insights. Events include a Real ID town hall meeting at the Carson City DMV, the economic impact of pro soccer in Northern Nevada will be featured at NNDA's Business Edge at Casino Fandango, Carson City Schools offers the first of three pre-kindergarten programs for parents and will also host a separate strategic plan meeting. Meanwhile, Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness hosts a yoga class, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

STATELINE — There was an exciting end to last Presidents’ Day Weekend for Dorothy Boone of Temple, Texas as she hit the Three Card Poker progressive jackpot at Harveys Lake Tahoe on Monday night, Feb. 17, resulting in a win of $1,340,518.

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will present the first of four “LatinXpressions” concerts on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 4 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street in Carson City. The concert highlights music and dance of Latin America as well as classical compositions.

From the opening of the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum in Carson City to the debut of new restaurants in Las Vegas, Nevada delivers uncommon experiences this season.

This past weekend, Youth Theatre Carson City’s Showstoppers show choir traveled to Southern California to compete in the Musical Theatre Competitions of America 2020, a national competition with 35 teams representing 19 states and 3 countries, and brought home two major awards: 2nd place Advanced/Open Musical Revue and 3rd place Advanced/Open Ensemble Performance.
