Ribbon Cutting for the bar formerly known as Mo & Sluggos

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon cutting on Thursday, Dec 5 at the former Mo & Sluggos, where the owners will unveil a new name for this popular Carson City watering hole and celebrate 80 years since the end of Prohibition.

The party begins at 4:31 p.m., the exact time that Prohibition ended 80 years ago. Tony's Taqueria will be providing free food and there will be plenty of drink specials.

The address of the bar with the secret name is 110 West Telegraph Street in downtown Carson City.

Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights 2013 features Empty Bowls Project fundraiser

Christmas and holiday lights will illuminate the Capitol Building and downtown Friday night when Carson City flips the switch at the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration.

The event brings thousands to downtown Carson City marking the city's official kick off of the Christmas and holiday season. Festivities begin at the capitol grounds, 5:30 p.m. where more than 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Music Students Singing Ensemble will provide musical entertainment.

Pearl Harbor: Legacy of Attack documentary featured Saturday at BRIC in Carson City

Carson City Library will present National Geographic’s documentary film “Pearl Harbor: Legacy of Attack” on Saturday, Dec. 7, the 72nd anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The film will be shown at the BRIC, 109 E. Proctor Street in downtown Carson City. The film will begin at 11:00 a.m. (just before the Wine Walk).

Carson City road report for Dec. 2-8; traffic re-routed during Festival of Lights tree lighting

Here is the Carson City road maintenance and construction report for the week of Dec. 2-8: On Friday, Dec. 6, Carson Street will be closed between Fifth Street and Robinson Street from 4:30 p.m., to approximately 8 p.m. for the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights in downtown Carson City. Detours will be signed.

Carson City's Arlington Square Ice Rink to open the day after Thanksgiving

Time to dig out the blades from the garage, lace them up and head to downtown Carson City for a frosty, icy wintertime tradition.

The Arlington Square Ice Rink will skate its way into the 2013-2014 season beginning Friday, Nov. 29. The facility is located at the corner of North Carson Street and West Robinson Street across from the Carson Nugget. The facility offers skate rentals, a warming tent, snacks and beverages and plenty of thrills for the family.

Polar Express holiday train aboard V&T Railroad sells-out third straight year

It’s a proven hot ticket to catch a ride from Carson City to the North Pole. For the third year, The Polar Express train aboard the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad has sold out. More than 16,000 passengers secured tickets on the Christmas season-flavored, children's story-inspired holiday passenger train.

Even with the addition of 18 more trains representing 6,500 seats over last year’s 10,000-plus capacity, a 66 percent increase, the train’s popularity continues to grow, V&T officials note.

Enjoy Saturday warm weather as temperatures to drop Sunday and Monday

Plenty of sunshine and warm weather for Saturday's Downtown Carson City Wine Walk. That will change, however, as a cold front moves into the region, dropping temperatures for Sunday and Monday, the National Weather Service reports.

Temperatures will be in the high 60s around Carson City with breezy conditions Saturday before the strong cold front is expected to bring gusty winds and showers by late afternoon and evening with much colder temperatures for Sunday and Monday.

Polar Express tickets aboard V&T Railroad going fast, seats on four dates remain

With the holiday season just weeks away, THE POLAR EXPRESS train is cannonballing down the fast track, with nearly all tickets aboard the historic Virginia and Truckee Railroad sold out.

CARSON CITY, NEVADA-The Carson City Library, Carson City Literacy Volunteers, and Literacy Volunteers for Children, will present a documentary film by Luis Macias, “Embracing Dyslexia”, on Monday, November 4th, at 6:00 pm, at the BRIC (Business Resource Innovation Center). The BRIC is located at 108 East Proctor Street, downtown Carson City.

A Walk Down the Fall Art Walk Lane

At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning a group of well bundled people met in downtown Carson City for the Fall Art Walk. If you missed the walk or forgot to take notes, here is a brief recap.

1) Comma Coffee – The “Backseat Gallery” in the back was featuring art by Barry Mitchell. It was a great opportunity to get a hot coffee too.

2) Legislative Grounds – A viewing of the statues of Kit Carson and Abraham Curry and the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial along the beautiful ground of the Nevada State Legislature.

Featured stop on the Wine Walk: A unique art show displaying the non-skin works of art from Carson City’s finest tattoo artists at Mo and Sluggo’s Bar in Carson City, NV. Artistically INKlined 3: The Skull, will showcase the oil paintings, water color, air brush, and mixed media from 6 local shops and over 11 artists with special guest sculptor. Art INK 3 is from 1pm – 9 pm, during the October Downtown Wine Walk. The show is FREE to attend but is a fundraising event for the Brewery Arts Center’s Youth Art Programs.

HopeFest outdoor concert Friday in Downtown Carson City to benefit local cancer patients

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation announces HopeFest 2013, an outdoor concert offering free admission with all sales on food, drinks and raffle tickets directly benefitting local cancer patients.

The outdoor event featuring the band Notch 8 takes place on Friday, October 4 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. outside of the Firkin & Fox restaurant on Third Street in Carson City. The event was rescheduled due to hazardous air conditions caused by the California Rim Fire.

Carson City Street Vibrations changes gears to be more family friendly

While Street Vibrations started in the parking lot of the Carson Nugget 19 years ago and quickly moved to Reno, new efforts to provide alternative events that cater to families as well as generate revenue for Carson City have been underway culminating in the return of Street Vibrations, in a family-friendly format, to downtown Carson City this weekend.

Shaheen Beauchamp Builders, LLC announces the completed renovation of the Mutual of Omaha Bank location in Carson City. The renovation included the building exterior as well as enhancements to parking and landscaping.
Mutual of Omaha Bank’s location at 1101 N. Carson Street is situated in the downtown corridor of Carson City and on the corner of Highway 50 and Carson Street (US 395 Business). The objective of the renovation was to update and improve the curb appeal of the building.

A number of decisions, coming soon, will have an impact on the desirability of Carson City’s downtown, the city as a visitor and business relocation destination, and ultimately property values. A large faction of citizens, seem to think parking is the issue with the vitality of our downtown. Over the course of this article I’d like to uncover whether that’s really the issue or not, and bring up some important points.

Iron Nation Memorial Bike Run through Carson City on Sept. 14

The Iron Nation Annual 911 Memorial Run will be held at the Carson City Harley-Davidson on Sept. 14 beginning at noon.

There will be 1,500 to 1,800 riders doing a loop through downtown Carson City for the event as part of their Memorial Run. Carson City Harley-Davidson will have activities throughout the morning and afternoon.
