The Nevada Humane Society’s Carson City shelter is helping interested pet owners find a new furry friend during the Me-MEOW-ial Day sale from May 25-27.

Yes, the Memorial Day holiday is nearly here and we may even get a weather break or four in between expected showers through the weekend, forecasters say. Activities and events to round out this third Thursday of the month include a meet and greet of Carson City Library candidates at Adams Hub for Innovation, a day hike, a bicycle cruise on the west side of the capital city, a Lunch and Learn Workshop for local nonprofit organizations, a chamber luncheon focusing on mental health, a GOP meeting, art showings, live music and more. UPDATE: This event has been canceled due to upcoming storms through the weekend. The following is from the Sheriff's Office: Due to anticipated cold, wet, windy weather conditions Carson City Sheriff’s Office regrets to inform the community of the cancellation of the Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party which was scheduled for Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to the National Weather Service a slight chance of showers and potential for wind is predicted. Unfavorable weather conditions may cause significant disruption in the planned outdoor activities. The event cannot be relocated indoors as accommodations are limited. Staff of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank those interested in attending and appreciates the community’s support.

The 16th annual Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office administration building, 911 East Musser Street.

Public safety, awareness and community are at the center of this popular annual spring event where the theme is “Cops and Kids: Where the Community and Law Enforcement Come Together.”

Second Wind Thrift Store Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Second Wind Thrift Store is celebrating their grand re-opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony and special comments from Mayor Bob Crowell on Saturday, May 4, at 10 a.m. Second Wind Thrift Store is located near the Carson City Senior Center, 901 Beverly Drive, Carson City.

The first 100 customers will receive free hot dogs, cookies and bottled waters. All customers will receive 50 percent off their purchases of every item in the store, excluding books.

Campers get ready: Forest Service announces Tahoe Basin recreation area opening dates

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin to open recreational facilities in the Lake Tahoe Basin beginning this Saturday, April 27 at Baldwin and Nevada beaches.
