Carson City Mint 150th anniversary, fitness events, classic film showing and more Tuesday

Heading into Tuesday, the capital city will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint with events throughout the day. Other activities include a morning and evening walk hosted by Muscle Powered, a dinner fundraiser for the Roman family at Pizza Factory, a community dinner and meeting invite to the Order of Eastern Star, a showing at the BAC of the 1941 film classic "The Lady Eve" and a concert featuring the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn at Shepherd-Sierra Lutheran Church. Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space to host Full Moon Hike this Saturday

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host its February Full Moon Hike this Saturday on the South end of Prison Hill. The hike will be a glow stick adventure featuring the "Snow Moon," Ghost Rock and plenty of beautiful terrain.

Muscle Powered hosts Tuesday morning walk at Carson City's John Mankins Park

Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. The Tuesday morning, Feb. 4 walk will be held at John Mankins Park, East. No dogs allowed in park. Meet at 3051 Oak Ridge Drive and West College Parkway. The walk is along a pavement trail.

Wine Walk, Super Bowl parties, standup comedy, karaoke and more: Carson City area readies for upcoming weekend

Heading into the Super Bowl weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the monthly downtown Carson City wine walk, plus karaoke at Bella Vita Bistro and Y-NOT Saloon. The Forest Service begins its first “Ski With a Ranger” at Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Mountain Resort on Friday. Combined with championship football festivities on Sunday, the Silver State is in store for a wild, good time.

Carson City Humane Society's Pet of the Week: Casper

Hello, Carson City! I hope you're ready to meet your new Pet of the Week courtesy of the Carson City Humane Society.

Say hello to Casper. Casper is a three-year-old terrier mix who was unfortunately surrendered by his owner in early December, and has been waiting for a new home ever since!

Carson City Humane Society's Pet of the Week: Bo-Keito

Happy Thursday Carson City, and say hello to our newest Carson City Pet of the Week, Bo-Keito!

Bo-Keito is a one-year-old Blue-tick Coonhound and has had a difficult time finding a forever home. He was actually adopted from the shelter, but was returned just after Christmas, which is incredibly sad.

One confirmed fatality at Tahoe Ski Resort Avalanche Friday morning

UPDATE 3:42 p.m.: Search and Rescue and PCSO have called off the search and are confirming there are no further victims of the avalanche to be found. Cole Comstock, 34, of Blairsden, CA has been identified as the deceased in the avalanche that occurred at Alpine Meadows.

According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), there is one confirmed fatality and a second victim with serious injuries following an avalanche at Alpine Meadows in Lake Tahoe.

Dayton man sentenced to 20 years in prison for hit and run that killed man walking dogs

Lyon County District Attorney, Stephen B. Rye, announced Tuesday that the Third Judicial District Court sentenced James Parisi, 39 years of age, of Dayton, Nev., to the maximum sentence of 20 years in the Nevada State Prison with parole eligibility after seven years on one count of duty to stop at the scene of an accident causing death.

Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space to host Full Moon Hike this Friday night

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host January's Full Moon Hike on the Wild Horse Trail this Friday, Jan. 10. Not only will the hike feature some wild horses and the "Wolf Moon" it will also be a celebration of Carson City's first Winter Trails Day.

Lost German Shepard and Rottweiler mix spotted at Carson Tahoe Hospital

Two large dogs entered Carson Tahoe Hospital's main lobby Sunday. One was a German Shepard and the other an older Rottweiler mix. They exited back out into the parking lot. If these are your dogs please come look in this area.

EPA revises the interim decision to use the M-44 cyanide ejection device

The M-44 is a trap typically deployed to kill animals that prey on livestock or endangered species. It is a mechanism that is pounded into the ground and baited with a smelly lure. When an animal tugs on the bait, the spring-loaded device delivers a lethal dose of sodium cyanide into the animal’s mouth; the animal dies within 1 to 5 minutes.

RENO — Reno-Tahoe International Airport anticipates more than 15,000 passengers will arrive and depart daily from the airport during the peak travel times leading up to Christmas and New Year's. The airport advises passengers to arrive early and allow time for parking, airline check-in and long TSA security lines.

Fundraiser tonight in Dayton, Saturday in Carson City for young girl battling brain tumor

Tonight, (Wednesday night) in Dayton, the Sutro Elementary School Boosters Club will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for a student, Maliya Gafford, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. A fundraiser is also planned for this Saturday in Carson City.

The dinner tonight is from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Sutro Elementary School multipurpose room, 190 Dayton Village Pkwy, Dayton.

The cost is $5. There will be a raffle, silent auction and a bake sale. Boosters will have a donation box in the office if you are unable to attend but would like to help.
