Obituary: Jean Marie Hamilton

Jean Marie Hamilton
September 11, 1937 – December 3, 2019

Jean Hamilton passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday Dec. 3rd.
Jean married Bud Hamilton on December 22, 1956 in Lindsey, California. They moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1972. Jean always wanted to be a nurse and went to nursing school as soon as all her kids were in school. She enjoyed a 37 year career as a Registered Nurse, with the majority of it spent at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Everyone who worked with her, or were under her care, said she was truly the best nurse.

Carson City Elk’s Lodge presents third graders with dictionaries for third year

On December 5, 2019 Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 Exalted Ruler Bruce Jurgensen, along with PER Kent Mayer, presented dictionaries to 76 third graders at Empire Elementary School.

This is the 3rd constitutive year that the Lodge has presented dictionaries to local third graders.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! 2019 Carson City National Night Out earns top 3 rank in the nation

The Carson City National Night Out event held in August has been awarded third in the nation among communities with a population of 50,000 to 100,000. Significantly, Carson City was the only Nevada jurisdiction to receive an award this year.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites the community to the inaugural Homestead Holidays event at Silver Saddle Ranch, Dec. 13-15, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night. Homestead Holidays is intended to be an old-fashioned holiday celebration with handcrafted decorations, holiday lights ornamenting historic ranch buildings, and family activities for all ages.

Cancer Recovery: Friends of Willow Bill host fundraiser Sunday at Carson City's A to Zen

Observant travelers in Northern Nevada are reporting numerous reindeer sightings along the 85 mile stretch of US 395 between Bordertown, on the north, and Lake Topaz, on the south.

The Willow Reindeer herd now has 3,000 individually crafted works of art. Each reindeer has been signed by the local elementary students that have created it over the past 22 years. With an average of 20 students per class, there have been over 60,000 local children involved in the massive local art project.

Nevada consumers spend nearly $639M during Thanksgiving weekend and 'Cyber Monday'

Once the dishes were done from Thanksgiving dinner, shoppers kicked off the shopping weekend immediately and headed to stores and online retailers to take advantage of deals and discounts over the long weekend and Cyber Monday. In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates that more than 1.7 million people spent a total of $638.9 million on gifts, decorations and other merchandise over the five-day period.

Carson City Fire Department begins prescribed fires near Timberline

Starting Tuesday, the Carson City Fire Department will be conducting wildland fuels reduction prescribed burn operations in Vicee Canyon in the Timberline area. Burning operations will occur on a 24-hour basis and will be manned with trained firefighters the entire duration.

Senator Square: Comprehensive Life Skills students make fundraising candles

Everyone has a disability of some kind, but most learn how to cope with or overcome it; however, not everyone with a disability is aware enough to recognize whether or not they even have a physical challenge. These individuals have a severe and profound physical and neurological disability, cannot care for themselves, need full-time assistance, and are some of the kindest human beings in the world, many of whom are students in the Carson City School District and at CHS. Each year, students in the CHS Comprehensive Life Skills program make crafts to sell at the annual CHS Craft Fair and give as gifts.
