Five years ago, Chef Don Pepe launched a holiday fundraiser to help Pets of the Homeless, a Carson City-based 501(c)3 non-profit that raises money to provide food, veterinary care and other essentials to the pets of homeless persons.

Since 1988, the Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights has heralded in Carson City’s holiday season. The festival has grown from a simple tree lighting on the capitol grounds to involving the entire downtown core attracting thousands to enjoy this very special event.

The Capital City Community will, once again, welcome the holidays with a free concert in the Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Kennan Peterson, regional organizer for the Tom Steyer presidential campaign. In 2013 he finished his degree in Political Science and International Relations at Beloit College in Beloit Wisconsin, his hometown. In the summer of 2014, he was hired as a field organizer for the Wisconsin Democrats' mid-term coordinated campaign.

Knowing where you are when it comes to health and fitness is a challenge for many, but for residents of Northern Nevada, it just got a whole lot easier and convenient. Once only available in a mobile environment, Measured Fitness Lab is opening an office location right here in Carson City.

Do you want to build a snowman? Wild Horse Children’s Theater is taking Northern Nevada by (snow)storm presenting DISNEY’S FROZEN, JR. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street in Carson City for two weekends only.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 31st season of the Nutcracker Ballet, a Feast with a Hero fundraiser at Slot World, Small Business Saturday throughout Carson City and Carson Valley, photos with Santa, a Telegraph Square sign dedication, Polar Express train rides at the V&T Railroad and more!

Christy Corporation, Ltd. will host an informal neighborhood meeting to present a proposed development plan for Andersen Ranch Estates, which includes the 48.2 acres located west of Mountain Street, east of Ormsby Boulevard in west Carson City.

The last Thursday of November means a big gobble gobble, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy in the games, festivities, activities at home and outdoors. Events are at a minimum, for obvious reasons, but the two big ones are traditions for us in the capital city. The Carson City Turkey Trot at the Governor's Mansion and the free Carson Nugget Thanksgiving community dinner. Enjoy your day and any slight break in the weather. More winter storms are on the way.

Calling all kids: Do you have a knack for crafting or making something? We want to see it! Come to the Carson Mall in Carson City on Dec. 14-15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and show us what you have. Kids will be showing off their unique gifts, and crafts that they have made.

Enjoy the holidays and shopping with some wine on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Carson Mall. Come sip and shop at the Carson Mall! The second Saturday of the Month. Walkers pay $10. With snow overnight into the morning, the eve of Thanksgiving will bustle with last minute food shopping and, for many, preparing for an extended holiday weekend. There's a few activities around Carson City on Wednesday, Nov. 27 including a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, classes and more.

Sign up to audition for "Heather the Musical (High School Edition)," on December 21 at 10:00 am (callbacks later that day). This production is the inaugural show of the newly-formed adult and young adult theater company, Wild Horse Stage Company which produces both small and large scale shows geared towards adult and young adult performers and audiences in Northern Nevada. Silver City Arts group's Saturday, Dec. 7 holiday event from noon to 4pm includes music by cellists Diane Kotik and Becky Crowe, a holiday craft activity for all ages led by Erich and Chali Haugen, and complimentary sweets.

Community Roots & Shoots’ annual Holiday Open House is Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 209 Dayton Valley Road.

Save the date for opportunities to shop local. Everything in the shop will be 10 percent off during the Holiday Open House. Complimentary treats and hot cocoa will be offered, and Santa will visit from 2pm-6pm.

The nonprofit floral and gift shop offers unique gifts, holiday and all occasion floral arrangements and cards, plus wreaths, garlands and Christmas trees.

With the season's first big winter storm expected to arrive later Tuesday evening into Thanksgiving, you can still get in activities around the capital city before the snow flies. There's a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a job fair at the Carson Nugget, fitness and swing classes at Yaple's Ballroom, a Carson City School Board meeting and more.

The Carson City region's Toys for Tots program is ready to serve families in need this holiday season. Hotlines open Dec. 3 and run to Dec. 20, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Fox Brewpub in Carson City is the 2019 winner of the annual Battle of the Bars Turkey Drive, having collected 52 birds in the Salvation Army competition to feed local families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday.
