It's been a mixed bag of activity so far Wednesday with valley rain, Sierra snow and power outages extending throughout Carson City into Lyon and Douglas counties.

Heading into Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, events around the capital city include a Polka Dot Powerhouse lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, the Navy League capital city chapter will celebrate veterans at its monthly meeting held at Gold Dust West, the Carson City School District seeks public input on its Strategic Plan at a community meeting, plus art showings, classes and more.

A 63-year-old caretaker was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, preventing or dissuading a person to report a crime and battery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.

Even though valley rain and Sierra snow happen this time of year, we're in for a brief change after going weeks without any precipitation. Enjoy the changeup. Heading into the middle of the month, we're all deserving of a high five. You can give an entire family a big cheer Thursday by donating a turkey at the annual Carson City High Five Turkey Drive hosted by FISH at Carson City Nissan. Stop by, bring a turkey and give a local family in need a happy Thanksgiving. Other events around the capital city include a Nevada Peace Officer Standards and Training graduation ceremony, a talk about earthquake preparedness hosted by Carson City Native and Newcomers Club, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and more.

Carmela A Porcella Inman passed unexpectedly on Nov. 8, 2019. Carmela was born Feb. 16, 1958 in Long Island, New York. She was born to the late Roger Porcella and Audrey DeLuca Porcella, and is survived by her husband William Inman who was the love of her life, Mother Audrey DeLuca Porcella, Brother Roger Porcella and wife Karen, sister Mary Beth and husband Brad, 4 nieces and nephews, 9 great nieces and nephews whom she adored.

While much of the nation is stuck in an arctic freeze, we're stranded with abundant sunshine in Nevada's capital city area with temperatures well above normal for this time of year. Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Also Monday is a discussion on homeless issues with local advocate and champion for those who are often without a voice, Dee Dee Foremaster.

Central Lyon Fire was dispatched Sunday afternoon just after 1 p.m. to a brush fire in the area of Highway 50 and Graves Drive east of Dayton.

A credit card skimmer was located on a Sinclair diesel gas station pump in Dayton, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office said in a Wednesday news release.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Dayton man as the victim in Saturday's fatal crash involving three vehicles on Highway 50 and Deer Run Road in Carson City.

A warmup is in the forecast this week as we head into Monday, Nov. 4, 2019. Expect sunny skies with daytime highs in the upper 60s. But you'll want to bundle up after the sun sets as night time temperatures will be in the low 30s. The Salvation Army in Carson City will hold a job fair on this Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Salvation Army will be hiring seasonal workers to help with their holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives and Angel Tree Christmas toy distribution.

On Wednesday, Lyon County announced a Boil Water notice to 34 residences on Grosh Avenue in Dayton following a broken water main that potentially stood to contaminate water systems for residents.

Following the announcement, the main was isolated and shut down, and those affected were without water.

A precautionary Boil Water Order Notice had been issued to those residents affected by the break. Crews anticipated the main would be repaired by noon Wednesday.

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3000 block of Thurman Circle early Thursday morning on nine counts including felony possession of stolen property, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, two other people were arrested in connection with this incident for obstruction after allegedly telling deputies the man wasn’t at home.

According to the USGS, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook the region Friday morning. Did you feel it?

The earthquake jostled the region just after 12 a.m. 10 km South-Southwest of Dayton and East of Eagle Valley in Carson City.

On Monday, a construction crew was digging a trench in the 200 block of Dayton Valley Road in Dayton, Nev. Workers discovered some bones that appeared to be human and contacted the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Lyon County utilities is working on a broken water main Wednesday affecting residents on Grosh Avenue in Dayton. The main has been isolated and shut down. The 34 affected residents are without water at this time, said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page.

Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

The ghosts and zombies and costume super heroes will be out and about now through Thursday, either at organized events or Halloween night trick or treating around the Carson City area, including the Carson Mall, throughout downtown and at the Governor's Mansion.
