The Passing of the Baton

The Capital City Community Band will present its annual Nevada Day free concert at 2:00P.M. on Saturday, October 27th in the Capital Amphitheater.

The concert will feature variety of music from Dixieland to Marches to Patriotic songs. A special feature will be “Home Means Nevada” by Marine Band arranger Sgt. Scott Ninmer.

The arrangement will feature Doug Thunder, a forty-one-year member of the band, on Euphonium.

Carson Chamber Singers, conducted by Michael Langham, will present its 2018 Choral Masterworks Fall Concerts in Carson City and Virginia City Nov. 2-3, 2018.

For a lazy afternoon in the shade, you’ll find live music on the porch of the Genoa Bar. The Tahoe Orchestra brings their annual 9/11 Memorial Concert to St. Gall’s Church in Gardnerville. It’s nice that the beginning of the school year is almost immediately rewarded with a three-day weekend. Live stage music played simultaneously Saturday evening from the Minnesota Street Stage at the Brewery Arts Center on West King Street to Living the Good Life Nightclub-Bistro-Lounge at Adams and North Carson Street.

Donny and Marie Osmond were in Tahoe onstage at Harveys Outdoor Arena on Friday, displaying their wide range of musical styles. The siblings started performing at an early age. Donny first entered the public eye when he joined his older brothers’ singing group,”The Osmonds,” and appeared regularly on “The Andy Williams Show.” Donny and Marie both recorded solo albums before joining forces to star on the 1970s TV variety show “Donny & Marie.”

Tahoe/Douglas Elks Lodge is sponsoring free concert by Re-Creation, the full performance singing and dancing group in Minden on Sunday September 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the CVIC Hall, 1604 Esmeralda Ave.

Re-Creation presents sparkling, energetic professional entertainment by eleven exciting young performers who offer dynamic vocal renditions of America's best-loved songs and enliven the stage with intricate, disciplined dance and choreography.

Silver City is wrapping up summer in style with a day of fun in the park on Saturday, Sept. 1. A rummage sale to benefit Silver City Arts will begin at 9 a.m. and an afternoon and evening of live music will run 3 to 8 p.m. Starting at 2:30 beer, wine and soda will be for sale to benefit the Silver City School House and future music events.

The 2018 Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series held its ninth of 10 free public outdoor concerts Saturday night, delivering the sounds of Americana to another packed crowd at the Brewery Arts Center.

It’s a very special Friday for the kids of Carson City: it’s the last day of summer vacation. Take full advantage of your free time and check out some of today’s activities. Live music at McFadden Plaza tonight features local cover band, Deception. The Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival kicks off tonight with a band in the Davis Creek Campground. The U.S. Air Force’s Jazz Ensemble performs at the Bob Boldrick Theater as part of the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. Free tickets have been available at the Chamber of Commerce for a few weeks, and if any are left, their numbers will be limited.

Asylum Sideshow returns again and again to the Reno, Carson City, Minden area. This time for dinner? Minden Meat and Deli are hosting a dinner and show night, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.

A band from Los Angeles mixed it up with Nevadans Saturday night on the Minnesota Street Stage at the Brewery Arts Center in downtown Carson City.

I’m not even going to speculate on the air quality, but please use your best judgement when choosing your activities and there may be some cancellations that I am not aware of. Downtown has a full day of options, but the back roads may be a little more difficult to navigate due to construction projects. The great music that awaits will be worth the hassle. The Brewery Arts Center presents the upbeat soul, jazz and hip-hop stylings of the Urban Renewal Project this Saturday, August 11 as part of the Levitt AMP Carson City free music series presented by The Change Companies.

Due to heavy smoke settling on the area, the RoseBud's Dance Band's performance for Monday, Aug. 6, as part of the Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival has been moved to inside the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. The concert was originally planned for Comma Courtyard, but the performers want to present the event in a comfortable and healthy atmosphere.

Reno-based Chakrapani Singh has been working to promote the music of India for the last 20 years. Singh is an award-winning and internationally respected instrumentalist with a unique repertoire ranging from traditional, classical compositions on the slide guitar to his innovative improvisational renditions on the Kachappi Veena, a plucked stringed instrument originating in ancient India.

Let’s get August off to a good start. The first Saturday of the month always plays host to the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, but with the Jazz and Beyond Musical Festival in full swing, you’ll have even more reasons to meander around downtown. The afternoon ice cream social at the historic Foreman-Roberts House is a perfect family-friendly treat before heading to the Brewery Arts Center for tonight’s free concert. FRIDAY, August 3: Things to do in Carson City

Friday opens the 15th annual Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival in Carson City that features 17 days of music, art and film at multiple venues in Carson City, August 3-19.

This Monday marks the two-year anniversary of Bob McFadden Plaza, a walking venue designed as a draw for families and foot traffic in the downtown Carson City area. The plaza, part of a long-term downtown redevelopment plan, replaced Third Street between North Carson and Curry streets.

America's favorite redhead and her band brought their distinctive brand of Rockabilly classic rock-n-roll and swing music to the Minnesota Street Stage Saturday night at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.
