Heading into the first Monday of February, we're hoping your post Super Bowl day is filled with a few extra dollars in your pocket, tasty leftovers for lunch and some good-hearted conversational quarterbacking. Activities around the capital city include a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar, a free Partnership Carson City Yoga class at the Carson City Community Center, art activities and showings, swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Consort Canzona, an early music performing group of the Carson City Symphony Association, will begin rehearsals on Monday, Feb. 3, for their May concerts. The program features Madrigals from the Renaissance through the Baroque, and includes separate and combined instrumental and vocal selections. Rehearsals are Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Stellar violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn joins TOCCATA, the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for the 10th year, performing one of the finest and most popular gems in the concerto repertoire. Ms. Pitcairn plays Mendelssohn's beloved "Violin Concerto" on the legendary 1720 "Red Mendelssohn" Stradivarius.

Events include a Christmas Through the Years presentation at the Carson Valley Community Theater, Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop, musicians Lauren Kepler and Dan Cypher at Bella Vita Bistro, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club and much more!

The whole audience will be bouncing and swaying to the irresistible rhythm. Everybody singing HI-DE-HO! They’re echoing the King himself, Cab Calloway, as he thrusts his baton into the air, and in his Zoot Suit, jumps, twirls and signals to the band to begin another joyous chorus. Who could forget the incredible sounds and imagery of Cab Calloway and his hot Jazz Orchestra!

For the first time, the Brewery Arts Center has organized Carson City’s "Unsilent Night." An original composition by Phil Kline, "Unsilent Night" was written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer.

Today, the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation named Carson City, Nevada as one of 20 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25K in matching funds to present a free concert series at The Change Companies Stage. The Brewery Arts Center submitted Carson City’s Levitt AMP proposal.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a toy and gift drive for homeless kids and teens, the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong for Strings at the Carson Mall, Carson City’s first-ever "Unsilent Night" at the Brewery Arts Center, a Só Sol dinner with entertainment at Sassafras, a "Pink Party" cancer center fundraiser at the Lighthouse Bar, comedian Dan St. Paul at the Carson Comedy Club and more.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. The devil may have gone down to Georgia, but the Charlie Daniels Band is coming to Carson Valley Inn next summer. And so is Tanya Tucker.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! Consort Canzona, a select group of instrumentalists and singers specializing in early music, will present “Something Old, Something New” concerts this holiday season on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 (just south of Best Buy) in Carson City. Admission is free, donations welcome.

The Capital City Community will, once again, welcome the holidays with a free concert in the Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.

William "Bill" Clarence Thornton, father, attorney, pilot, part-time cowboy, corny joke-teller, and mentor to many, had his final flight on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 after gracefully charting his course with Parkinson's Disease for over twenty years. Bill died peacefully at home in hospice care surrounded by loved ones.

Keith Alan Barnett's 2nd annual Birthday Concert at A to Zen will be held Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Keith had such a great time last year, he's decided to make it an annual thing. This year, he has invited his band mates from MiXed Company and Lonesome Polecat Band to join him.

Everyone in Carson City is invited, always invited, to come on out and support the CHS athletic teams and programs, especially when so many of these individuals and teams have been so successful. A great many athletic events are happening this week and beyond with regional competitions in soccer, and state competitions in tennis and cross country.
