It was a stark contrast between two totally different worlds. In Carson City, we had been experiencing winter weather conditions, seemingly forever, which is typical for this time of the year: furnace running off and on, all day and all night; heavy frost on the car windows in the mornings, ominous-looking gray clouds filling the skies; cold, biting winds; snow-covered landscapes; trees without leaves; dead-looking flower gardens; having to wear winter jackets and gloves; all kinds of neighbors and friends with sniffles, coughs and colds.

For more than a year, the lack of firm details about the Nugget Project has been a major source of frustration to those trying to get their heads around this undertaking.
Without real numbers or plans, those arguing for or against struggled with hitting the moving target that is this project.
But that target just got a whole lot more stationary, as Carson City Manager Larry Werner released a 100+ page feasibility report (attached below) for the Board of Supervisors to use this week when a decision is made on whether to move forward with the project.

Fall Around Carson
Submitted by on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 8:00amI kind of missed the best of the fall colors around town, but I did manage to catch some good shots at the tail end of the show. But now instead of red and orange and yellow, the trees around town are turning brown and lifeless, and will stay that way until next May. For more photos go to aroundcarson.com.
Ski season has changes in store at Heavenly Mountain Resort
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 10/19/2010 - 2:22pmWith a new boss at Heavenly, onetime ski bum Pete Sonntag, things are humming there as they prepare for the upcoming season. I taught skiing there for several years and with all the new stuff and improvements going on I sometimes wish I were back on the hill there — even if they never improve the ski school facilities are Boulder Base.
Sonntag is a real skier (and boarder) who was on the Vail demo team, so you can be sure he’ll be out on the hill checking things out himself.
