Local business Carson Built Customs set to open in Carson City

A new local custom automotive shop is set to open in Carson City to help personalize your vehicle.

Carson Built Customs, located at 220 E. William St., specializes in custom powder coatings, metal works, CNC fabrication as well as custom installations for automobiles and motorcycles. No exact date has been set for when the business opens. Thomas Purnal, owner of Carson Built Customs, said he plans on opening to the public by mid-July.

Fishing Report: Great fishing conditions across the board, more sites opening soon

Hello fellow anglers. I finally got out to do some serious fishing last weekend. Renee and I joined our friends Tom And Shelly Blotter at Bridgeport Reservoir.

The trip started out a little precarious. We arrived on Saturday afternoon to a steady 25 to 50 mph wind. Which kept us off the lake until Sunday.

Each season brings its joys and its challenges. I’m excited after winter to see the delights of Spring with all the blooming forsythia, flowering plums, daffodils, and other plants displaying their colors. I generally forget the spring problems until suddenly I’m seeing ground squirrels, ants and weeds. All of a sudden, I feel as if I have to hurry to catch up with the pests.

My friend Sarah suggested I write about forcing blossoms indoors since we are all anxiously awaiting spring color to arrive on trees and shrubs. Forcing blossoms gives us a lovely spring preview. The idea is to cut finger-sized non-essential branches of spring-flowering trees and shrubs, stick them in a vase of water indoors and wait for blossoms to open.

Carson City's Rebecca Ostrander overcomes brain tumor, set to graduate from UNLV

Obstacles are nothing new for Carson City native Rebecca Ostrander.

Ostrander, 21, suffered a brain tumor shortly after her 18th birthday. She was forced to spend most of her senior year of high school in hospitals and physical therapy recovery centers.

Benjamin Franklin, one of the best gamers of all time said, “We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.” The adults sure could learn a thing or two from the students at CHS because Winterfest 2020 played out, pun intended, just like it was supposed to with Carson's Got Game being the theme.
