Department of Public Safety appoints new Nevada Highway Patrol Colonel

CARSON CITY — Nevada Department of Public Safety Director George Togliatti announced the appointment of Daniel Solow as Colonel of the Nevada Highway Patrol effective Monday, Nov. 8, 2019.

Colonel Solow was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in December 2017 and has been with the Department since 1995, beginning his career with the Nevada DPS as a Trooper serving the Laughlin/Searchlight district. The previous NHP Colonel, John O'Rourke, retired in August 2019.

NDOW warns of hypothermia risk following double fatality boat accident at Topaz Lake

Two men drowned and one was injured when their boat sank during a fishing trip at Topaz Lake south of Carson City on Saturday. The injured was admitted for hypothermia to Carson Valley Medical Center and later released, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

Body of victim in apparent drowning recovered Monday at Lake Tahoe

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit 7 recovered a body from a depth of 1,062 feet in Lake Tahoe on Monday. The recovery was made while searching for a missing person, who reportedly drowned the week prior. The identity of the person has been withheld until the family has been notified.

The recent buzz of maritime alerts focused on the high percentage of bunker line test failures and the US Coast Guard’s response with strengthened enforcement of fines and halting bunker line operations. During Port State Control (PSC) examinations, it was noted that approximately 30 percent of all vessels were not compliant.

Missing swimmer's body recovered Sunday evening from Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The body of a 21-year-old California man was located in Lake Tahoe Sunday afternoon, more than 24 hours after he jumped off a boat near Edgewood Tahoe.

Search continues for swimmer missing in Lake Tahoe

The search continues on Lake Tahoe for a swimmer that went missing Saturday near south shore. Marine units of Douglas County Sheriff's Office, South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County Sheriff's, Washoe County and the U.S. Coast Guard are all in the area where the swimmer was last seen.

No injuries after fireworks barge erupts in fire at Lake Tahoe

Two hours after the Lights on the Lake fireworks show at Lake Tahoe ended late Wednesday, one of three barges used to launch fireworks in the show caught on fire. No injuries were reported.

The temperature may be cool outside, but the Nevada Department of Wildlife is encouraging boaters to enroll in a watercraft education course before boating season as part of the national Spring Aboard: Take a Boating Education Course campaign.

The Carson City Senior Center presented a salute to Carson City veterans Thursday. The program featured Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and members of the Carson High School JROTC representing each branch of the United States Military.

Coast Guard continues investigation into Tuesday's Tahoe Queen fire

An investigation team from the Coast Guard is continuing their investigation into Tuesday's fire on board the Tahoe Queen, which suffered severe damage while it was docked at the pier at the Zephyr Cove Marina on Lake Tahoe's south shore.
