Fire engulfs Tahoe Queen at Zephyr Cove
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 08/16/2016 - 9:52amUPDATE 7PM: Investigators and vessel inspectors from Coast Guard Sector San Francisco are on the scene of Tuesday's fire on board the 119-foot passenger Lake Tahoe paddle wheel boat, the Tahoe Queen.
"Most of the damage is limited to the boat's pilot house and second deck," Lt. Jake Aulner of the U.S. Coast Guard told South Tahoe Now. "This can be attributed to the great response by the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department."
Aulner and the team from USCG Yerba Buena Island will be at the scene until the cause of the morning blaze is determined.

Nevada participates in Spring Aboard national boating safety and education campaign
Submitted by editor on Thu, 04/14/2016 - 11:44amDuring the week of April 17-23, the Nevada Department of Wildlife is joining a nationwide effort created by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators to promote boating education. Developed by NASBLA, and produced under a grant administered by the U.S. Coast Guard, the Spring Aboard campaign brings together state, federal and nonprofit partners to encourage boaters to enroll in a boating education course before boating season kicks off.
Fleet Reserve Association honors winners in patriotism essay contest

The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League meets on quarterly basis conduction a dinner, meeting and informational speakers that talk about the various duties the Sea Services provide. This quarter’s Dinner and meeting will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, Carson City. The Social hour will start at 5:30 PM and Dinner will begin at 6:30PM.

Tahoe Paradise replaces MS Dixie II for time being
Submitted by editor on Sun, 01/18/2015 - 2:52amLake Tahoe Cruises announced that their boat "Tahoe Paradise" will be operating the company's sightseeing and dinner cruises instead of the M.S. Dixie II beginning Wednesday, Jan. 21.
The Tahoe Paradise will operate out of the Ski Run Marina. Lake Tahoe Cruises' other boat, the Tahoe Queen, has been out of operation since an incident at the end of their New Year's Eve cruise caused the boat to stop. Initial reports from the Coast Guard said the boat ran aground on sand due to low water levels.

Submitted by editor on Thu, 01/01/2015 - 12:26pmA paddle-wheel cruise boat ran aground on the California side of Lake Tahoe only minutes into the new year, stranding hundreds of revelers for about two hours in sub-freezing temperatures, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The Tahoe Queen became stuck near its dock in South Lake Tahoe at the end of a cruise early Thursday, said El Dorado County sheriff's deputies.

Others imagine fishing on the lake stocked with big fish, while yet others think about how nice it would be to sit at the quiet and scenic shore and enjoy the sun and the view.
To nine year old Erline Christopherson, all she thought when first saw the crystal blue waters was how she'd like to swim across it. The dream was born that day in 1955.
Tahoe Queen gets stuck on sandbar: 258 passengers taken to safety
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/05/2014 - 8:30amWhat started off as a leisurely 90 minute cruise on the Tahoe Queen turned into quite the adventure for passengers on board Monday afternoon.
The boat was about 30 minutes into its Emerald Bay cruise when it became stuck on a sandbar on Lake Tahoe. At about 3:30 p.m., South Lake Tahoe Fire Department received a call that the Tahoe Queen was stuck off the Regan Beach shore. It is not known at this time why emergency personnel weren't called to the scene until 90 minutes after the Tahoe Queen got stuck.
Nevada agencies step up water patrol this weekend looking for boaters under the influence

Nevada Department of Wildlife wardens and law enforcement will be looking for boaters operating under the influence this weekend in waters across the state as part of a nationally coordinated enforcement effort dubbed “Operation Dry Water.”

Nevada Free Fishing Day is Saturday, June 14. On Free Fishing Day anglers may fish in any public fishing water in the state without a fishing license or trout stamp. All limits and other regulations apply.

Nine rescued from Lake Tahoe after boat flips

Lt. Pete Van Arnum said El Dorado County Sheriff’s boat unit and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of a vessel taking on water near Dollar Point in Lake Tahoe at around 2 p.m.

DREAM Act walkers stop in Carson City

The Campaign For An American DREAM walkers each have their life stories about how they or their family members came to this country as children, but now face deportation because of their immigration status.

Veterans gain job skills while reducing Lake Tahoe wildfire risk

The theme for this year is “101 Days of Crime Prevention and Safety” which was envisioned by Sheriff Ken Furlong to promote safety throughout the summer which continues well after National Night Out. Festivities run from 5 to to 8 p.m.
Nevada game wardens set to crackdown on impaired boaters

Game wardens from the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) will participate in a national effort to reduce instances of boating under the influence. For the effort, dubbed Operation Dry Water, officers will be out in force June 24-26 looking for boat operators with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) exceeds the state limit of .08%.
Operation Dry Water will include increased patrols statewide, including at Lakes Mead and Mohave, South Fork Reservoir and Lake Tahoe.

Boating safety officials, volunteers and members of the boating public will hold the second annual “Ready, Set, Inflate!” event at the Reno Cabela’s store Saturday at 10:30 a.m. as part of a nationwide effort to set a world record for the most life jackets inflated in one day.
Last year’s total was 1,154 participants.
