Trolling has been more effective than bait fishing deep holes and should remain that way until surface temps really spike. Like above 65 degrees.

Outdoors with Don Q: A little bit of everything for everyone

There is a special place in this part of the Far West where there is a little bit of everything for everyone, every day of the year. Are you interested?
Well, if you are, be sure to plan to stop at Wiggins’ Trading Post located in Chilcoot, Calif. You won’t regret stopping.
Wiggins’ Trading Post is located on California S.R. 70, about seven miles west of Hallelujah Junction on U.S. 395, and it is the gateway to Frenchman Reservoir (about eight miles north).
That unique store is owned by Richard (Dick) and Shirley Wiggins, and they have been there since way back in 1968.

Outdoors with Don Q: Memories from an unforgettable six week adventure

Bob and Lorraine (my cousin) Scholes of Dayton plus Elaine and I just returned from a six week vacation trip to Italy, Sicily and Switzerland. It was the Scholes’ second trip to Italy and our first-ever trip.
Lorraine’s father was born in Ponte Buggianese and my Dad was born in Lucca, and we both wanted to visit where our roots began.
We left on August 30, flew from Reno to Denver to Montreal to Rome and then returned from Rome to Zurich to San Francisco to Reno on October 12. Here are a bunch of our memories:

Carson Station celebrates grand re-opening with wing cookoff

There were wings everywhere, of all types and flavors; the garlic parmesan seemed to be getting the best reviews from the crowd. There were four types of beer on tap (at a dollar apiece it was easily the best deal in town) and all of them were ice cold. For another dollar, one could buy a "walking taco": a small bag of Doritos, crushed and covered with meat, cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and salsa, eaten right out of the bag.
