Free Flu Clinic in Carson City on Friday

The Carson City Health and Human Services office will provide free flu vaccinations Friday, Oct. 24 in Carson City and Nov. 8 in Minden.
Both clinics are drive-thru. The Friday clinic is from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Carson City Corporate Yard, 3303 Butti Way.

Carson City Carl's Jr. at Carson Mall now history

Carl's Jr., which has stood on the west side of the Carson Mall on Carson Street since 1983, was demolished Thursday. See video here.

Carson Mall officials said removing the restaurant will make way for more parking opportunities on the west side of the mall near the new Bealls. Action Home Furnishings will open on the west side of the mall sometime in November, said Joanne Holmes, leasing executive and asset manager for the Carrington Company, owners of the mall.

Carson City Visitors Bureau new office becomes Gateway to the Capital City

The Carson City Visitors Bureau has a new home at 716 N. Carson Street. The relocation stems from many of Carson City’s visitor attractions being downtown and the proximity to the Nevada State Museum, State Capitol building, Legislative Council Bureau and the Historical District.

According to CCVB Executive Director Joel Dunn, the new location will provide greater visibility for visitors looking for information, will be in the epicenter of all downtown events as the visitors bureau continues to expand the umbrella of new arenas for Carson City tourism.

Speed limit goes from 25 to 35 along stretch of South Carson Street

South of 10th Street along Carson Street the speed limit has changed from 25 to 35 mph. The change was result of a traffic study.

Carson TV News: CPAC Athletics kicks off fall girls soccer program

CPAC Athletics, a recreation league program that brings girls from around Carson City for soccer matches, has kicked off for the season. Practice is underway and the first games begin Aug. 16.

The coaching staff is guided by the CPAC training and coaching curriculum, which is based on United States Soccer Federation and National Soccer Coaches Association of America guidelines. Go here and here for more information.

Judge Kristin N. Luis was appointed Juvenile Court Special Master for the First Judicial District Court in October 2010, to replace David I. Nielsen who retired from the position in November 2010. Kristin was a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno and Gonzaga University, School of Law.

Fontaine has been the executive director of the Nevada Association of Counties since 2007. Before that he was director of the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Capital Crossfire: The Margins Tax – Reckless Taxation or a Must for Education?

Capital Crossfire takes on the Margins Tax this week as Karl Neathammer and Shelly Aldean speak with guest Karen Griffin with Faiss Foley Warren, a Las Vegas public relations firm that specializes in government relations.
The three discuss the Nevada Margins Tax Initiative and its predicted impacts on business, education and future economic growth.

The issue will be Question 3 in Nevada's November general-election ballot. If it is approved by a majority of voters, the tax would impose a 2 percent tax on a business' margins after allowable deductions are taken. Only businesses that gross $1 million annually or more will be subject to the tax.
