Capital Crossfire: Common Core a curse or a cure for American education?
The latest edition of Capital Crossfire features Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes and educator John Eppolito. The topic of the discussion is "Common Core, a curse or cure for American Education."
The two discuss the myths and realities of this wide-ranging federal education initiative with hosts Shelly Aldean and Karl Neathammer.
State education chiefs and governors in 48 states came together to develop the Common Core, a set of clear college- and career-ready standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts/literacy and mathematics.
Today, 43 states have voluntarily adopted and are working to implement the standards, which are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to take credit bearing introductory courses in two- or four-year college programs or enter the workforce. Go here to learn more about Common Core.
The program airs on Access Carson City Television (Charter Cable Channel 226) on Tuesdays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. For past Capital Crossfire programs go to Video on Demand here.
