The ninth annual Carson High School Safe Grad Safe and Sober Run/Walk occurs at the CHS track.

And the 20th annual Feast of Chocolate, a scholarship fundraiser for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Capital Branch, is being held at the Plaza Hotel Event Center.

Local community members and organizations donated generously to Carson City Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels recipients this holiday season with gifts of personal necessities and nice-to-have items for the area’s senior population.

The new ballroom of Carson City’s Casino Fandango was unveiled in a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday evening, complete with champagne, prime rib, a catered buffet dinner, and a live band, in typical Fandango style.

It’s nice that the beginning of the school year is almost immediately rewarded with a three-day weekend. According to the calendar, summer is coming to a close but South Lake Tahoe is refusing to acknowledge it. Tahoe South will host a magnitude of events extending the season from Labor Day into October with entertainment, culinary festivals, music, outdoor recreation, competitions and a lakefront laser show.

Film lovers are invited to walk the red carpet for a night of glitz and glamour — while also raising money for arts programs in the community — as part of the Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s fourth annual Hollywood Gala.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, and there will be plenty of ways for the family to enjoy spending time together all weekend long. The Carson City Elks Lodge is hosting a Mother's Day Champagne Brunch at 515 N. Nevada Street in Carson City on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 13 beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Brunch menu features herb scrambled eggs, ham, pastry trays, fruit platter, quiche, cheese tray, coffee, and adult beverages. Champagne for adults over 21.

Cost is $12 per person.

It’s finally here, the last weekend of 2017. It’s fairly quiet around town, until Sunday night, that is. Today, Muscle Powered is leading a five-mile half-day hike along Prison Hill. Take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, and join them. The Carson Nugget is hosting three nights of comedy this weekend: catch Myles Weber on the stage tonight. Head’s up. Galaxy Theater usually plays a movie from the past on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week, we get treated to the Christmas Classic, Die Hard. You won’t want to miss that.

A long weekend is just beginning. Tonight, funnyman Steven Briggs kicks off three nights of comedians at Carson Comedy inside of the Nugget Casino. Friends of the Carson City Library is hosting an ‘Evening in Paris’ New York New Year's Eve Party on Dec. 31st from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Carson Plaza Event Center, 211 E. 9th Street.

The Carson City Senior Center collected more than 550 gifts from area residents and businesses for homebound seniors this year. The Carson City Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program delivers almost 300 meals to homebound seniors daily. In the past year, the Center has provided over 79,500 hot meals.
