Tis the season for visits with Santa, holiday twinkle lights, and craft fairs and festivals. In order to make your December planning a little easier, take a look at what is coming up in the Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton, and Virginia City area. Go deck the halls, get some jingle bells, and wassail away.

Join Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery as we celebrate the holiday season with local artist Natasha Munson. Hand painted furniture, pottery, and repurposed art will be on hand.

The Saturday, Dec. 9 event begins at 10:30 a.m. and will include Champagne, Bellinis, Mimosa's, candies, cakes, and chocolates. Drop by the gallery and help us celebrate and check out the gallery all decorated up for the most magnificent time of the year.

The annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, a benefit for The Greenhouse Project, showcases the culinary talents this year of Kevin Ashton, Zozo’s Ristorante, Reno, who joins hosting Chef Charlie Abowd, co-owner of Cafe at Adele’s.

The great thing about Labor Day weekend is that it just keeps going. The Best in the West Rib Cook-off offers up family fun, live music, and plenty of bar-be-qued delights all the way through Monday. For those with younger kids, consider a day at Mills Park. This is the last weekend for summertime train rides through the cottonwoods. Join Muscle Powered at Silver Saddle Ranch by the Carson River for a bike or hike this morning. Bring water and a camera, you never know what wildlife will make an appearance.

Summer is holding on for dear life, and sending a miniature heat wave our way for this long weekend. For those of you not in Black Rock City, the Carson City region offers plenty of recreation and entertainment. Downtown will be hopping with the Farmers Market, monthly Wine Walk, and this season’s last outdoor concert at the Brewery Arts Center – and that’s just Saturday! Pamper the special lady in your life with a soak at the Carson Hot Springs. It’s free for moms today, but fun for the whole family. If breakfast-in-bed isn’t the plan, head to the Douglas County Museum for the Lions Club’s annual pancake breakfast. More adventurous mothers may want to try their hand at BMX racing, with a special race just for them at the Livermore Sports Complex. This weekend is for all of the moms out there, and the dads that are also moms, and the women who hold a special place of honor in our hearts. Scoop the family up and find something to enjoy together. The annual RSVP Spring Carnival is an easy choice, but a round-trip to Virginia City on the historic V and T Steam Train is pretty memorable. Find something pretty for her garden at the Spring Plant Sale that the Greenhouse Project hosts each year. If everything goes as planned, the sun will finally make an appearance. That’s good news for those running in the Carson High Safe and Sober 5K or in Ascent Runs’ Love Can Be Cold 5/10K at Prison Hill. Celebrate Love with an Evening of Romance at Piper’s Opera House

There are few jazz pianists who can touch a heart as Bill Evans once did. Number 1 on the list would have to be Reno’s own Colin Ross, whose notes, as Evans did, drop like a heavy cream.

Carson City offered plenty of venues with which to ring in the new year. From lounges to galas, there was no shortage of New Year's Eve entertainment in the Nevada State Capital.

With just a few hours of 2016 remaining on the West Coast, arguably the world's largest New Year's Eve bash in New York City's Times Square culminated at 9 p.m. Pacific Standard Time with the real time midnight ball drop watched by guests at the Carson Plaza Hotel Events Center Saturday night in Carson City.

Are you ready for this? New Year’s weekend is upon us and brings with it hope and optimism for the New Year. Resolutions are made, parties are planned, and the kids are smack dab in the middle of their winter break. Standing in front of artist Mauricio Sandoval’s newest mural on West Telegraph Street gives one the feeling they are admiring the high desert landscape of Northern Nevada rather than a brick wall.

Let’s just call this Nevad-oween weekend. So much crazy fun awaits: whether it’s the celebration of our ‘new’ downtown, Halloween parties for kids and adults alike, or our State Museum’s 75th Anniversary. Mauricio Sandoval hopes that when people see his mural on a wall on Telegraph Street, it makes them feel good.
“The main thing about my art is to make people feel happy — or what I call good medicine,” Sandoval said. “It’s more of a home feeling.”

Virginia City celebrates the next two weekends with historic proportions including the Great Civil War Days this Saturday through Monday, the annual Labor Day parade and then prepares itself with giddy and up go the following weekend with the 57th annual International Camel and Ostrich Races.

The weekend has arrived and there are festivals everywhere. A Basque Festival and Picnic can be found in Gardnerville. Bowers Mansion hosts a Bluegrass Festival for the 31st year. Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival returns to King Beach for the weekend. The Annual Jazz and Beyond Music Festival has infiltrated the whole valley with musicians. I can understand if your plans for the weekend include sitting half-naked in front of a swamp cooler with an icy beverage. It has been quite roasty these last few days. Let me, however, attempt to lure you out with this weekend’s event list; there is plenty of fun to be found around the valley. Some of your options even include air conditioning and icy beverages.

Carson City celebrates the opening of Bob McFadden Plaza, located on Third Street between Carson and Curry Streets this Saturday, July 30 with a full schedule of events. Proceeds from the celebration will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City present the 13th Annual Jazz & Beyond Festival. It features 17 days of Music and Art at multiple venues in Carson City, August 5-21.

"Jazz & Beyond is a homegrown event celebrating the talent of our region and relying on many local music fans who donate their time and effort," said committee co-chair David Bugli, President of the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc. "Volunteers, sponsors, and advertisers help us make the event one of the best in the area, and keep most performances admission free."
