CASA of Carson City

Since 2018, the Carson City 4-H PJ Drive for Kids in Foster Care has been collecting and donating pajamas to the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Kids’ Closet. We started the Drive to give our little ones a chance to give back to their community in a way that is meaningful them, through giving a cozy pair of pajamas to another child.

The Nevada Division of Child & Family Services in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse Nevada, C.A.S.A of Carson City, and Ron Wood Family Resource Center presents The Pinwheels for Child Abuse Prevention (PCAP) Viewing Party & Foster Parent info session on April 1, 2022, at 6:30 PM in McFadden Plaza in Carson City.

This week's Senator Square features guest writers Ananda Campbell and Bridget Gordon-Johnson who explain Monday homeroom academic strategies. Campbell is a CHS Library Media Specialist and Carson City School District Library Coordinator. Gordon is a CHS counselor. This is their report:

CASA of Carson City received an early holiday gift from Casey Neilon, an accounting firm with offices in Reno and Carson City, in the form of a sizeable donation.

CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, provides quality court-appointed advocacy for abused and neglected children in child welfare cases, through a network of community volunteers who work with children to ensure their voices are heard during court proceedings.

Hello and welcome! CASA of Carson City is looking for men and women, 21 years of age and older, to volunteer and advocate for children that are currently in foster care.

Until he became a Court Appointed Special Advocate, Eric Stahlman said he didn’t realize his heart needed to grow. He now has more compassion and understanding for kids and parents struggling in the community.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, we can expect sunny skies and continued highs in the mid-50s. Midweek events include a Dayton chamber breakfast with the founder of the Desert Pigs cleanup nonprofit group. Plus there's the first of 5 days of Valentine-themed festivities that begins at Carson Mall; an open house at Bethlehem Lutheran School, a CASA information hour, a Carson City School District meeting regarding proposed middle school zone modification. Plus there's a yoga class, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

A Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained volunteer appointed by a judge to speak up for the best interests of children in foster care. CASA Volunteers are Everyday Heroes who come from all walks of life and serve as the eyes and ears of the Court.

Simple pleasures, like nibbling on homemade French fries dipped in killer ranch dressing, are what social workers at the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services Carson City District Office look forward to most in the thick of daily stressors.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. Every child needs a hero, but abused children need Superheroes. We’ve heard a million times that kids are sponges, absorbing all that they see and hear. That includes the good, the bad and the ugly. It makes sense that they want to imitate one of the good guys in a show or cartoon. To a child, a superhero is magical. A superhero is powerful! A superhero can help keep them safe.

CASA of Carson City is looking to expand its volunteer base. There are thousands of children in the State of Nevada residing in foster care currently. These children have been removed from their homes, their friends and they need a strong advocate to stand up for them and express their wishes.

Come learn what it means to be a Court Appointed Special Advocate or CASA! Carson City CASA is beginning their first volunteer training session of 2019. Would you like to advocate for children? Do you feel strongly that a child's voice should be heard? Would you like to make a difference? Then CASA may be just for you.

Carson City 4-H is collecting new pajamas in all sizes and styles for kids in foster care in Carson City. All donations will go to the CASA of Carson City Foster Kids' Closet for distribution to kids in Carson City.

School is out in Carson City and the summer wasted no time in getting started with the fun stuff. Lampe Park will be hopping with live music, activities, and another carnival. You’ve probably noticed the very large tent erected by the Carson Mall. The Ramos Bros.
