This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

On Friday, the Greenhouse Project held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new outdoor classroom which will be used to host both students from Carson High School as well as community classes on gardening and agriculture.

Greetings, The Charlie B Gallery located at 114 West Telegraph Street, Carson City, Nevada will be having a 20 percent sale for store owned merchandise and 10 percent sale for all consigned merchandise. Our hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday 11am to 6pm and now Sundays from 10am to 4pm.

The Carson City School District and Carson High School are pleased to announce CHS Senior Cristian Garcia Perez has been named a semifinalist for the 2021 class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program, putting him in the running for one of the 150 college scholarships worth $20,000.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Carson City, is pleased to announce Carson High School’s Librarian Ananda Campbell as the winner of a $5,000 grant to fund a historical documentation project titled The Story of Carson High School. Nearly a half dozen applications from teachers and teams of teachers were received for this competitive grant.

Many in Carson City do everything they can to help the less fortunate, and those opportunities never cease being opportunities. With this in mind, the holidays are here, the semester at Carson High School is almost over, Christmas vacation, also known as winter break, begins Dec. 19, and there is another opportunity to be generous for those who have plenty.

Carson High School (CHS) is pleased to celebrate Senior Brandon Engels’ commitment to bowl for Hastings College, one of the top college bowling teams in the country.

Tonight was supposed to be the time to bundle up, put handwarmers in your gloves and gather family and friends to venture downtown to enjoy one of Carson City’s most beloved traditions and the official kick-off to the holiday season.

Pastor Tim Plummer, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Missionary Area Director, has once again brought Christmas trees to Carson City to support FCA. Christmas is fast approaching, and most agree it is the best time of the year. The holidays can be a difficult time for many, but it does not have to be this way.

The Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce nine student winners of the 19th Annual American Citizen Essay Contest. Each winner will be recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 24, and will received the following cash prizes: First Place: $80, Second Place: $30 and Third Place: $15. Grade level winners include the following.

The next Carson City School Board Meeting will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 24 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street beginning at 7 p.m.

Carson High School's NJROTC Drill and Color Guard team competed in their first ever ‘virtual’ drill competition hosted by University of North Carolina ROTC program. The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

Even the Grinch is distressed as the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights becomes another casualty joining all the Carson City signature events cancelled since March 2020 due to the pandemic.

If this hater of everything Christmas is distressed, you can just imagine how sad all those who love this Carson City tradition will be.

The Greenhouse Project is proud to announce the first MaskurAid Ball, taking place Jan. 4, 2021 in an event where masks are mandatory and costumes are optional.

Taking place at The Governor’s Mansion Nevada Room, the event will observe all social distancing and restricted capacity guidelines.Doors open at 5 p.m., a prize will be awarded for the Best Decorated Mask.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2020. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded $200 mini-grants as well as up to $2,000 grants for a department, school or grade-level projects.

Be a part of bringing hope by voting on contestant art pieces to decide the “Social Media Fave” in the Donor Network West annual art contest. Four Carson High students, Anthony Larry, Connor Lampert, Danielle Van Dusen, and Sarai Jauregui Rivas made the first cut, though all of CHS Graphic Design Instructor Patricia Ababio’s students submitted entries.

Travel to Brazil at the next Rotary Club of Carson City’s weekly meeting.

Sy'Johnniqa Moore, a Rotary Youth Exchange student, recently returned from the South American country and will talk about her student exchange experience.

Carson High School is pleased to announce five student athletes will carry their academic and athletic talents on to the next level in various Division 1 Scholarship signing ceremonies.

Cami Larkin, senior at Carson High School, officially signed to play Division One collegiate volleyball with George Mason University located in Fairfax City, Virginia.

Cami is currently co-captain of the Varsity volleyball team at Carson High School. She is a three-year starting varsity player, excelling at the position of middle attacker.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is pleased to announce the winning entries in the Nevada Day Chalk Art Contest held on Oct. 31. The contest was open to all Carson City residents, households and businesses. Contestants created chalk art masterpieces on their own driveways or sidewalks based on the Nevada Day theme of “My Favorite Moment in Nevada.”

In the age of Covid, many are dealing with anxiety and panic. What is the difference? According to the Mayo Clinic, a panic attack occurs when a person feels intense fear that triggers the “fight or flight” response.

Holly Marie Shrum died in Carson City, NV on Monday October 12, 2020 surrounded by her family. Holly was 44 years old.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce the most recent Nevada Association of School Boards Award winners. Trustee Lupe Ramirez was honored as the 2020 NASB New School Board Member of the Year and Mrs. Renae Cortez was honored as the NASB 2020 Administrative Assistant of the Year.

The Carson City School District and Carson High School are pleased to announce CHS Seniors Abby Golik and Kobe Morgan have been honored as School Winners in the 2020 Heisman High School Scholarship competition awarded by The Heisman Trophy Trust and Acceptance Insurance.

The results are in. Students laughed at them because they had to dress differently, today, but they laughed at the students, too, because they were all dressed the same.

For the second year, Nevada Day has its own brew to call its own, made at Carson City's own Shoe Tree Brewing Company.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, by executive order, Governor Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and State public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on Thursday, October 29, 2020 as a mark of solemn respect and in remembrance of Carson City Mayor and native Nevadan Robert “Bob” Crowell, whose memorial is being held Thursday.

The teachers of Carson High School are continuing to ask if the community of Carson City would purchase a T-shirt to support both breast cancer awareness and CHS teacher Kelly Gustafson, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

The next Carson City School Board meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Among the items for discussion are a report on return to school measures, a possible bond resolution, activities and summer projects.
