Drive One 4UR School raises $8,000

Carson High School Safegrad and Cheer Boosters got a big boost on Saturday from the Capital Ford Drive One 4UR School event raised $8,000 for the two groups.

General Manager Tim Milligan said they had 340 test drives of new Ford vehicles that morning. Capital Ford made a donation for every test drive.

CHS and Capital Ford team up Saturday for Drive One 4UR School Test Drive Event

Capital Ford and Ford Motor Company is hosting a Drive 4 UR School Event at the Carson High School North Parking Lot beginning at 8 a.m. For each person who drives a new Ford, the company will donate $20 for a total of $6,000. Drivers must be a minimum age of 18, and only one driver per household is allowed. The whole experience take less than 20 minutes, and 300 drivers are needed. All proceeds will benefit Carson High Cheer and Safe Grad for the Class of 2017.

Carson City Toyota helping WNC students succeed through scholarships

Carson City Toyota is funding several new scholarships for local students who attend Western Nevada College. The students come from Carson City, Dayton, Douglas and Silver Stage high schools.

Carson Toyata General Manager Dana Whaley presented a $4,000 check to WNC President Chet Burton this week. The scholarships were created to help eight college students meet financial needs, as they work toward a degree from WNC.

Boy Scouts of America Troop 33, now in its 77th year, will host its 3rd annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 13 at Fuji Park in Carson City.

Carson City Salvation Army launches annual backpack and school supply drive

The Salvation Army is collecting backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children through August 17. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County will receive backpacks and school supplies as needed. The Salvation Army will have a distribution of the back packs and a large portion of the back packs collected will be given directly to the School Districts for distribution to children in transition.

Today has a lot going for it. Food Truck Friday is the theme of the new United Federal Credit Union’s Grand Opening week: you can find them across the street from Mill’s Park on Williams St. Earth Day weekend kicks off at Western Nevada College with a Gem and Mineral Sale during the day, followed by a presentation by World Renowned Scientist: Dr. Charles Goldman in Marlette Hall at 7 p.m. Break a leg to the cast of ‘Harvey.’ The Procenium Players open their two weekend run at the Brewery Arts Center’s Black Box Theater tonight.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada travel in style, thanks to foundation grant

The E. L. Wiegand Foundation presented a $70,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to replace the organization’s aging vans following a visit to Carson City from Foundation President Kristen Avansino.

“Last fall I decided to visit the Club unannounced,” Avansino said. “It was my first visit to the new facility since I had not been able to visit the Club’s Teen Center grand opening. I toured the building with Program Director Matt Sampson and was truly impressed by his enthusiasm and assessments. The building was well maintained and, obviously, well used.”

Carson City's MJ's Sports Bar wins Battle of the Bars toy drive for Salvation Army

With an impressive 135 toys collected, MJ's Sports Bar in Carson City won the Battle of the Bars Toy Drive hosted by the Salvation Army. Crossroad's Lounge collected 79 new toys, placing second in the competition, with Ed's Doghouse collecting 63.

Saturday's Battle of the Bars Toy Drive to benefit Salvation Army Angel Tree program

The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Christmas program will benefit from the third annual Battle of the Bars Toy Drive. Local bars and taverns have been collecting toys since late November and will push for a final count at 6 p.m. Saturday. Salvation Army officials will be “Bar Hopping” in the afternoon and evening picking up toys and thanking everyone for their support of this Toy Drive.

BSA Troop 33 is excited to announce it will be hosting its 2nd Annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 15, 2015 at Carson City’s Fuji Park.

The Show will be from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; award ceremony starts at 3 p.m. Registration is $40 per entry. There is still time for pre-registration or you can register on the day of the event. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, one lunch meal ticket, and a dash plaque.

Salvation Army 2015 Apple Tree Back Pack and school supplies drive underway

The Salvation Army is collecting Back Packs and School Supplies for disadvantaged children through August 13th. The Salvation Army has been getting calls from families in need for several weeks asking for help. Children from Carson City School District, Silver State Charter School, and Douglas County School District will receive all back packs and school supplies that are collected.

Little League raffle winner gets minivan courtesy of Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota

Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota, Capital Ford, and Campagni Auto Group are pleased to announce a winner has been selected for this year’s Carson City Little League raffle.

The grand prize, a 2005 Toyota Sienna Mini Van, was won by Jeffrey Ferrel. The vehicle is valued at more than $10,500 and was raffled off this past weekend. Thank you to everyone who supported the Carson City Little League by buying tickets, to all who volunteered their valuable time, and to all the players.
