The Michael Furlong Band will rock the Fuji Park Exhibition Hall in Carson City at "A Face in the Crowd," a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute show this Saturday night, March 7. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the band will keep Tom Petty fans on the dance floor until the show wraps up at 10 p.m.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities over the next three days. Restaurants in Carson City will host Valentine’s Day specials on Friday. The Carson City Celtic Music series will be at the Brewery Arts Center on Saturday featuring Fortunate Strangers. Move over — or roll over — Agatha Christie, Lollipop Productions is about to unveil a mystery dinner show that spoofs old-fashioned whodunits, the medical profession, “female problems,” and theater folks!

When half the cast of “Murder on the Oriental Rug” bails out, the remaining performers are stuck playing all the roles. During the first act, you’ll meet a Shakespearean actor with a drinking problem, a washed-up former child star, a bimbo with a short memory, and a hapless costumer who finds herself onstage — playing a man.

Six teams of Carson City area filmmakers are making romance short films in one week. The films will be screened starting at 6 p.m. with buffet dinner, 50/50 raffle and an "It's a Date" teaser on Friday, Feb. 14.

Western Nevada College faculty professor Dr. Winnie Kortemeier will share her expertise of the violent formation of Lake Tahoe with members of the Leisure Hour Club at the Club’s next meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States will honor Veterans, past and present, at our November meeting. We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Our speaker for the Special Veteran’s Day celebration will be Captain Evan Morrison, Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Fallon.

Carson Tahoe Health Auxiliary is presenting "Murder at the Sock Hop".

It will be presented Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at the Governor's Mansion, 606 Mountain St., Carson City.

The program includes buffet dinner, interactive show, no host bar, and raffles. Doors open at 4:30PM with the show starting at 5:00PM and buffet dinner at 6:00PM.

To help members of the Leisure Hour Club celebrate Halloween, Sandie La Nae will share her knowledge of Carson City’s spirits at the Club’s next meeting on Wednesday, October 16.

Carson City resident Maxine Hauser Nietz will share her love of space and her work with NASA during the Leisure Hour Club’s September meeting. The organization will begin its 124th year on Wednesday, Sept. 18 with Nietz’s presentation and a business meeting.

An Italian Feed fundraiser for The Do Drop In day center at 1895 E Long Street and its parent organization, The Rural Center for Independent Living (RCIL), will be held at the Governor's Mansion's Nevada Room from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 31.

The capital city will celebrate Tinseltown, classic cinema and raise money for Carson City school art programs at the 5th annual Hollywood Gala on Saturday, May 18 with the theme "A Star is Born" hosted by Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

The beasts of Africa will be highlighted during a wildlife photography presentation to the Carson City Leisure Hour Club on Wednesday, May 15. Presented by Patrick Pevey and Carol Grenier for the first time, club members will share in the experiences of seven trips to Africa.

The Carson City Classic Cinema Club will host its 5th Annual Hollywood Gala, on Saturday, May 18th at the Gold Dust West (2171 E. William Street).

This is our chance to celebrate our successes, recognize those who have shared their time and talents to further our mission, and raise money to continue expanding our outreach programs.

Uncovering Nevada’s past is the topic for the Carson City Leisure Hour Club on Wednesday, March 20. Presented by Dennis Casinelli, club members will learn about artifacts that he discovered while growing up in Nevada and during his long career as a highway engineer for the Nevada Department of Transportation. He also founded Cassinelli Landscaping and Construction, which still serves Northern Nevada today.

Beat the mid-winter blues and show a little love for homeless cats by attending Catmandu's big fundraiser, "Caturday Night Out," happening Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Carson Nugget Casino, 507 N Carson Street, Carson City.

The event will be a fun-filled night for animal lovers featuring dinner, music and dancing with a live band, door prizes, mega raffle, and silent auction.

On Wednesday, February 20, Carson City Leisure Hour Club members will hear from C.I.R.C.L.E.S co-founder and former Carson City Supervisor Shelly Aldean about the exceptional work of C.I.R.C.L.E.S. She will be joined by Thomas Blake, Jr., C.I.R.C.L.E.S. program manager, for the presentation.

After 5 years and more than 1500 cats and kittens saved, Catmandu is hosting their first ever big event on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Carson Nugget Casino, 507 Carson Street, Carson City! “Caturday Night Out,” a fun-filled night for animal lovers, will include dinner, music and dancing with live band One Way Street, door prizes, a raffle, and auction.

Doors open at 5 pm. A buffet dinner featuring both a vegetarian and meat option starts at 6 pm. Emcee Monty Wolf of KOH radio takes the stage after dinner for the raffle, prizes and auction or silent auction.

Is the Leisure Hour Club going to the dogs? On Wednesday, Jan. 16, members of the Leisure Hour Club will learn about the exploits of the Carson City K-9 Unit, even meeting some of its members — both human and dog.

On Wednesday, Dec. 19, Chris ‘CW’ Bayer will be entertaining the members of the Leisure Hour Club, Carson City’s oldest continuously meeting social organization. According to CW Bayer, he will be “singing and telling lies” for the Club during his performance.

The new ballroom of Carson City’s Casino Fandango was unveiled in a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday evening, complete with champagne, prime rib, a catered buffet dinner, and a live band, in typical Fandango style.

On Wednesday, Nov. 14, Dr. Vincent Solis, President of Western Nevada College, will share WNC’s vision for the future at the monthly Leisure Hour Club meeting. In recognition of the Club’s funding of scholarships at WNC, Niki Gladys, WNC’s Executive Director of Development, will also join Solis at the meeting.

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, Leisure Hour Club members will hear about Carson City’s lost history from local author and historian Peter Mires.

Club member and historian Kim Harris will help the Carson City Leisure Hour Club begin celebrating its 123-year history with a presentation at the Club’s first dinner meeting of the year on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

The Friends of the Nevada State Museum will share the histories of some notable Nevadans on Friday, August 3, 2018 when they premiere A Night of Notorious Nevadans.

It’s going to be a breezy weekend, so you may want to rethink spending the day at the lake. Luckily, plenty of options are available just about anywhere you are. Carson City has a car show and Brewfest hitting the downtown corridor, and to the south, Minden and Gardnerville are having their party of the year: Carson Valley Days. It’s World Doll Day at the Nevada State Museum with special displays, activities, and a special performance by the local Young Chautauquans.
