The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Carson City HOSA students compete in state competition, take home 6 chapter awards

CARSON CITY — A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas March 18-20.

There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS). More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

Donations solicited for local woman fighting stage 4 breast cancer

Shelly Morales is a local woman who is currently fighting against Stage 4 breast cancer, and will be undergoing another round of chemo therapy.

Her daughter, Nikki Becker, has started a GoFundMe page to help alleviate the financial burden of Morales and her family.

'Mammovan' makes Carson City stop Monday at Nevada Legislature

She died of issues related to metastatic breast cancer on June 21, at 3:07 a.m. the exact minute the Summer Solstice began.
