'Mammovan' makes Carson City stop Monday at Nevada Legislature
Nevada Health Center's Mammovan made a stop at the the Nevada Legislature in Carson City on Monday as a part of its Northern Nevada tour and to recognize Community Health Provider Day.
The Mammovan is a mobile mammography unit that travels to underserved areas of Nevada, providing mammograms to women in geographically isolated areas, and to those who are uninsured and may not otherwise seek mammography services, according to the Nevada Health Center's website.
Legislators were given the opportunity to tour the Mammovan, ask questions about services, and receive a screening if they fell under the requirements.
Mammograms are generally provided to women 40 and older as a way to keep an eye out for breast cancer, but women under 40 can also receive Mammograms due to different circumstances.
About a dozen appointments were made Monday, said Mammovan staff member Amanda McRae, but walk ins are accepted and highly encouraged.
The Mammovan has been in operation since 2000, made possible through a grant secured by former U.S. Sen. John Ensign and Nevada's former First Lady, Dema Guinn.
If you would like to be screened at the Mammovan, it will be at the Sierra Nevada Health Center, 3325 Research Way in Carson City on Tuesday.
To get a screening, you can fill out this patient form here in English, or here in Spanish.
