Today marks the opening of filling for this year's election for Carson City Justice of the Peace, and the current holder of that office John Tatro was the first to file.

Boys and Girls Club Lake Tahoe Golf Classic set for October

The 18th annual Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Golf Tournament, an annual favorite of locals and visitors, is set for Monday, Oct. 17 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. The entire $195 entry fee goes directly to the Boys & Girls Club to continue its work with local children. Last year the BGCLT raised over $35,000 with this year’s goal to break $45,000.

McCall Realty of Lake Tahoe Lends a Hand to Families, Victims of Violence

In the spring of 2010, McCall Realty promised $20,000 in donations to be shared across five non-profit agencies benefitting the youth of South Shore. Included among the organizations is the South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center, dedicated to improving the emotional, social, and economic condition of women and families in our community through prevention, intervention and treatment programs and services that address domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and basic needs.

McCall Realty gives Tahoe youth a fighting chance

In 2010, McCall Realty of South Lake Tahoe pledged to donate $20,000 of annual profits to five non-profit organizations benefitting the youth of South Shore. Owner Thane McCall is fulfilling that promise by delivering final contributions to the South Lake Tahoe Police Activities League (PAL), which will use the funds for after-school programs including a boxing club, bike club, recreation outing group and various sports teams.

Board of Supervisors to look at property tax increase tomorrow

I received a call from the Builders Association of Western Nevada this afternoon about a big property tax increase the Carson City Board of Supervisors is going to vote on tomorrow.

The funny thing is, I read through the agenda last week and didn't see it. But it was easy to miss. It is number 15 on the agenda, and the language used gives very little clue as to what it is (the document is attached below).

Gaming Alliance, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority give 20K to area nonprofits

As a part of an ongoing initiative to support area non-profits, the Lake Tahoe Gaming Alliance and the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority donated $20,000 among four charities, Friday, Dec. 3 at Lakeside Inn & Casino.

Christmas Cheer received $10,000; Tahoe Youth and Family Services $5,000; South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center $3,000 and the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe $2,000.

American Century, LIVESTRONG deliver to South Tahoe nonprofits

Nineteen South Lake Tahoe area non-profit organizations got an early holiday surprise Thursday when more than $100,000 was delivered by LIVESTRONG and the American Century Championship.

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority board of directors announced the distribution of $102,377 in contributions on Thursday, Nov. 11.

The 16th annual Kids Auction & World's Greatest BBQ held Saturday at Mills Park raised $175,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, said Hal Hansen, the club's chief professional officer, Wednesday.
