I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: July 15 – 16

If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.
Technology workshops: Spokes Across America to turn wheels at Carson City Library

The team of students will bike across the United States in collaboration with edX and Teach for America as part of an effort to rethink STEM education.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 06/27/2017 - 10:41amAt a public workshop on June 20, 2017, the City Manager expressed the opinion that Carson City would be relinquishing control of its fate to the Reno City Council if it elects to prohibit the sale of recreational marijuana within its borders and that the cost of dealing with marijuana consumption within our jurisdiction (because of its availability in Washoe County) cannot be adequately offset without the ability to collect taxes on new retail pot sales.

Treasure hunters will be kept busy with the Genoa Community Garage Sale, as well as one encompassing the Saratoga Springs area of Johnson Lane. Sweethearts of the Sierra will provide music and trails will be open. Muscle Powered will be biking many of the trails and it is a great opportunity to visit the historic Red House.
Historic Sierra snowpack modifies, enhances Carson City Off-Road course

The Capitol 15 will be unchanged from last year.

Tuesdays are for hiking and biking in Carson. The morning easy walk will take you from Mills Park to the Capitol and the afternoon conditioning hike will give you well-deserved views from C-Hill. Now that we’ve warmed up some, the Tuesday evening ladies’ ride in Ash Canyon has started up again: don’t forget your helmet. Congratulations to Mile High Jazz Band for 16 years of monthly concerts at Comma Coffee. Enjoy a night of great music, yummy drinks, and a birthday cake to celebrate.
