Co-Founder of non-profit organization biking across country to raise awareness about addiction, riding through Carson City

On July 29, Nicholas Basalyga, co-founder of the non-profit In The Saddle, will get on his bike in San Francisco, CA. Two months later, he will arrive in Philadelphia. He is biking across the country to generate support for In The Saddle and raise awareness about the epidemic of addiction that America is currently facing.

Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition launches bicycle safety campaign

The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition has launched a multimedia education campaign to promote safe bicycling for Tahoe visitors and residents.

“We hope these safety tips help ensure people enjoy riding their bicycles at Lake Tahoe,” said Curtis Fong, vice president of the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition. “This is the greatest and most beautiful place in the world to ride a bike, and we want to help make sure that bicyclists are aware of safe riding practices when bicycling on roadways or bike paths around Lake Tahoe.”

Weekend events result in big business for Carson City

A special event slated to debut in Carson City this month is expected to benefit the the local economy on a graduated basis each year through 2020.

It’s estimated that Carson City Off-Road would generate $1 to $1.5 million in local revenue in 2016, said Joel Dunn, executive director, Carson City Visitors Bureau. About 30 percent of that would be spent for lodging and the rest for retail, restaurants and bars.

Muscle Powered, a Carson City non-profit that works to promote safer walking and biking conditions, will lead a Ride of Silence on Wednesday to honor cyclists who have been injured or killed while riding their bicycles on public roadways.

Courses announced for inaugural Epic Rides, Carson City Off-Road mountain bike event

Organizers of Carson City's first Epic Rides Off-Road mountain bike event in June unveiled its event course Tuesday through a video and a series of maps. The event, June 17-19, will gives riders three distance options: beginner, weekend warrior and pro level.

Volunteers from Muscle Powered often assist with maintaining the area's trails, cutting back encroaching brush, or building sustainable features into a trail in order to prevent erosion.

Schoolchildren urged to participate in March 14-18 Nevada Moves Week

Many Nevada schoolchildren will take part in organized events that promote walking or bicycling to school during Nevada Moves Week, held March 14 through March 18. Many of the events will be held March 16, which will be celebrated as Nevada Moves Day.

Carson City wins tourism grants for mountain bike promotion, art walk, MAC and powwow
