The Silver State celebrates its birthday this week in Carson City and will put on a statehood celebration like no other as Nevada Day comes into full swing, featuring the annual parade down Carson Street on Saturday, a carnival at Mills Park, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, activities for adults and kids, contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit every wild hair.

Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more. Going into Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019 more sunny skies and warm fall temperatures will continue to shine on the capital city as we prepare for the Nevada Day weekend. Sections of the Linear Ditch Trail in Carson City will be closed starting Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, for maintenance and cleaning. The multiuse path will be closed from the east end of the Linear Ditch, east of Fremont Elementary School and continue west to South Roop Street along Governor’s Field. Maintenance is anticipated to take up to several weeks.

Going into the second week of October, there's plenty of events around the capital city for this Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 including a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered. Homecoming, first seen in 1911 at the University of Missouri, is a wonderful event celebrated throughout the US at high schools and colleges. Homecoming is more than just a football game, it encompasses multiple celebratory events such as bonfires, tailgate parties, dances, and the crowning of a King and Queen. Fall is in the air in Carson City, and a change in the weather was one more reason for kids and adults alike to get out and celebrate this year’s Disney themed Happiest Homecoming on Earth.

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested on a violation of suspended sentence warrant after attempting to outrun deputies on a BMX bicycle.

It could be the last hot day for a while, at least until a freak 90s+ hot day in November followed by a week long blizzard, so enjoy it while it’s here!

Presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders visited Carson City Friday and hosted a Town Hall in the gymnasium of the Carson City Community Center.

The senator spoke on several topics including health care, Wall Street, the criminal justice system, and more.
