Lions Club kicks off Annual 'White Cane Days' in Carson City Oct. 10 and 11

Lions will be available at the North Carson Street Save Mart from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day to bring awareness to the public of the sight preservation programs the Lions support, and to raise funds as part of the annual White Cane Days.
Douglas County creates 'Frequently Asked Questions' in regards to proposed Painted Rock Mine
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 10/03/2020 - 12:46pmAt their September 3rd and 17th meetings, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners discussed the proposed Painted Rock Mine, located on tribal trust land administered by the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) in Douglas County.
The Painted Rock Mine is a proposed commercial gravel pit operation east of the Johnson Lane Community.

'Clean Up The Lake' removes over 8,000 lbs of trash from Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Thu, 09/24/2020 - 8:47amClean Up the Lake, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has removed 8,183 pounds of trash from Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe.
Beginning in July 2020, the Clean Up The Lake dive teams completed a circumnavigated SCUBA clean up of Donner Lake, covering every inch of the 8 mile shoreline at depths of 0-25 feet removing all the smaller trash they could find that resulted in 5,151.5 pounds of trash removed from Donner Lake compared to 3,032 pounds of trash removed from the depths of Lake Tahoe.

Pine Nuts with McAvoy Layne: Nevada icon Glen Lucky turns 68 on Sunday

He was like many other boys, cute, smart, happy to arrive, however, he was diagnosed with a birth defect, cerebral palsy, and his parents were advised he might not live to see 15. But Glen did live to see 15. He started riding a bike at 15, and 16 and 17. Glen turns 68 on Sunday.
Forest Service beaches, day-use facilities at Tahoe reopen, fire restrictions remain in place

Camping and overnight stays will not be permitted, and campgrounds will remain closed. Resorts will reopen for day-use only. Emergency Fire Restrictions will remain in effect through Nov. 30. I’ve attached the Forest Orders for your awareness.
