The great day about three-day weekends is how quickly the next weekend appears. Thursday in Carson City offers fun stuff like live music at Living the Good Life and Sassafras, karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar, and the Silver Dollar Classic Car Cruise night. Monty Python lovers should audition for ‘Spamalot’ at the Brewery Arts Center. The Novelists make an appearance at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historical Park as part of their Twilight Concert series; you’ll want to bring a chair or blanket. Don’t miss your last chance to see the CCAI exhibit by Nancy Raven at the BRIC.

Wednesday, July 6: Things to do in Carson City
Downtown is in a for a new building; Hop and Mae Adams Foundation breaks ground at Curry and Telegraph this morning. Yummy stuff awaits at the Wednesday Farmers Market. Check out some evening fun with Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House. Track down some creepy crawlies with a Scorpion Hunt at Washoe Lake State Park; bring a black light if you have one.

There’s a riot at Mills Park. Don’t worry, this isn’t the kind of riot you want to avoid: the Rockabilly Riot has roared into town and offers rad cars, drag races, live music, a burlesque show and tattoo expo. Intermingled with the pompadours and pin-up girls are hundreds of law enforcement officers in town to show off their skills at the Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. Tonight you’ll have to choose where you go for free music: the street dance at Jimmy G’s, Gold Dust West, Westside Pour House, the Fandango, Nugget, or Max Casino.

Whether you celebrate taco Tuesday, Tahoe Tuesday, or just any day that the sun is shining, enjoy. Dayton kids are in for a treat at the Dayton Library with at reading of 'The Tortoise and the Hare.' The Reno Rodeo is still around, so hit up their carnival and watch the cowboys do their thing. If you can't make it to Reno, Country Line Dance at Carson Lanes will let you get a taste of what you're missing. Tonight, enjoy singer-songwriter Canyon White at Living the Good Life. TUESDAY:

Lollipop Productions in conjunction with the V&T Railway will hold open auditions on June 21, 2016, for the old time melodrama “Train to Danger” written by John Burkhart.

In “Train to Danger,” railroad heiresses, the Pullman sisters, are stranded in a snowstorm in Hidden Gulch. Handsome engineer, Tom Truetrack is to see to their safety during their trip home.

Let’s go to the Fair, Carson City. Mills Park is hopping with activity: a carnival, car show, exhibits, music, and a return of the Rendezvous. If you have kids, don’t miss this month’s Young Eagle Flights at the Carson Airport, just make sure to sign up by 8 a.m. Start your day at the Third and Curry Farmers Market, and don’t forget to make your artistic mark on a handcrafted bowl for the Empty Bowls event. Youth Theatre Carson City will hold auditions for "Legally Blonde, Jr.' this Saturday at the Carson City Community Center.

The theatre company is looking for actors, singers, and dancers grades K-12. The show will run six performances, July 29-August 7, 2016 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.

Into every life a little rain must fall, and we just got plenty. The tulips and lilac blooming around town will be pleased. Unfortunately, it could make for soggy feet if you’ve got any outdoor activities planned. Lucky for us, plenty of fun can be found indoors. Hit the Carson Mall for Cowgirls and Lipstick or learn about rare coins at the Nevada State Museum. Meet author Joe Crowley at Browsers' Corner Book Store or read to therapy dogs at the Carson City Library. Wild Horse Children's Theater wants YOU to take a magical journey to "A Whole New World" in our summer production of Disney's "Aladdin, Jr., at the Carson City Community Center. Auditions are open to those ages 5-18.

Auditions will be held Thursday, April 14 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall at 511 W. King Street in Carson City. Performances are weekends July 1 - 10, 2016.

In like a lion, out like a lamb. March has arrived, and it brings the promise of more snow for the mountains. Not today, though, so embrace the sunny spring day that we have. Put on your cowboy boots and head to Carson Lanes for some line dancing. Square dancing in Genoa is free your first time; dress casual and go do-si-do. The Performance Hall at the Brewery Arts Center is where you’ll find the Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s viewing of Meet John Doe with Gary Cooper.

We’ve all felt the occasional urge to ride off into the sunset, but it was those Pony Express boys that actually did it. Learn about their history from the Pony Express Association at Red’s Old 395. An informative talk at the Carson City Library sheds some light on why life is so crazy. If you’ve always wanted to learn to play with fire, then check out Controlled Burn. This regional fire spinning group will show you the ropes at A to Zen.

Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

I’m a sucker for old movies. Give me some Garbo, Monroe, Gene Kelly, or comedic Danny Kay and I’m a happy girl. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club brings a different old movie to a big screen once a month and raises money to bring the arts to kids. Check out this month’s selection ‘Penny Serenade’ in the comfy chairs of the Brewery Art Center’s Performance Hall.

We have some incredibly talented kids here in Carson City. The jazzier ones will be performing at the Community Center tonight with the Mile High Jazz Band in an extravaganza of music. Enjoy some of our valley’s views with the Parks and Rec Easy Walk along the freeway multi-use path. Dinner plans are easy; Mystique is holding a grand opening tonight downtown, so go see what deliciousness they have to offer.

The Youth Theatre of Carson City held auditions for parts in its junior production of Disney's Alice in Wonderland on Saturday in the Carson City Community Center's gymnasium. Children K-12 were eligible to come out and try to be part of the play that is scheduled to run April 8-10. For kids not able to afford the $100 tuition, scholarships were also available.

Time for the weekend, Carson City, and that means time for a new list of things to do in our lovely valley. Art, music, history and more await throughout town, so take a gander at the list and enjoy!

We are looking for actors, singers, and dancers grades K-12, who will be cast to play all the classic characters including Alice, The White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter, The Cheshire Cat, and of course, The evil Queen of Hearts – plus a host of other colorful characters.

National Honor Society is hosting its winter blood drive. It will take place on January 28 in the library from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. It is open to community members.  Refreshments and a free cholesterol test is available with each donation. The annual talent show is coming up at Carson High School. The event will take place 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Carson Community Center. Auditions for the talent show will be on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2:05 p.m. in the upstairs cafeteria at CHS. Audition applications can be picked up from room No. 243 or the office. The CHS talent show is only open to ninth through 12th graders at CHS and cash prizes are awarded. The CHS chapter of FBLA is hosting this event. We all have a favorite time of year and mine is Girl Scout Cookie Season. Pre-sales begin today, so track down your favorite scout and order some Thin Mints. The clock is ticking for last minute shoppers. Luckily, Carson City has great options for everyone on the list. Telegraph Square in downtown will be hopping with a Santa parade, vendors, and a pirate ship, in addition to great shops. The Brewery Arts Center is hosting a weekend-long art sale with one of a kind options throughout the campus. Art is a great gift, and making it is even more fun. Carson City Pottery is holding an open house today; a gift certificate for a pottery class is perfect for all skill levels.

Proscenium Players, Inc., in conjunction with the Brewery Arts Center (BAC) in Carson City, is holding auditions for the roles in the classic production of "Harvey."

Oh, the weather out there is going to be frightful. A blustery storm is on its way in today, so you may want to bring in that inflatable snowman. Heading outside will be rewarded though.
