The Carson City District Attorney's Office will host a friendly game of dodge ball it has dubbed "Dodge for the Cause II." This event will promote domestic violence awareness along with other community organizations.

UPDATE THURSDAY: Joseph Andrew Crump was arraigned Thursday in a Carson City courtroom. He was arraigned on suspicion of domestic battery first offense, being an ex-felon in possession of a stun gun, and being an ex-felon failing to register.
The District Attorney's Office hasn't concluded its investigation of felony child abuse, in which Crump was also arrested on suspicion. The matter remains under investigation. His bail remains at $40,000.

A 36-year-old Carson City man faces multiple charges including felony child abuse, being a felon in possession of a stun gun, domestic battery and being an ex-felon failing to register, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Judge hands down sentence to man who killed bear in South Lake Tahoe

"These are always tough cases," said El Dorado County Judge Suzanne Kingsbury Friday as she handed down an unexpected sentence to the 78-year-old man who killed a bear near his South Lake Tahoe home on July 10, 2015.

Gilbert Alan Wetenkamp pleaded no contest on March 11, 2016 to the misdemeanor charge of unlawfully taking of a bear.

Man arrested for sex crimes after allegedly luring Carson City teens using social media

UPDATE: This story has been updated with new charges filed Friday on suspect Jacob Daniel Houser. Go here for the latest. A 21-year-old man was booked into Carson City Jail on felony sexual assault charges involving minors ages 13 and 14, a Carson City sheriff’s detective said.

Jacob Daniel Houser was arrested July 8 in Fresno, Calif., after a warrant for his arrest was issued July 7. He was extradited and returned Wednesday to Carson City where he faces sex crime charges, said Carson City Sheriff’s Office Detective Sal Acosta.

Lyon County murder suspect attempts to escape, two jail deputies injured

Ryan Coddington, an inmate awaiting trial in the death of Alea Clark, battered two Lyon County deputies during a routine linen exchange late Thursday night in what appears to have been an attempted escape from the Lyon County Jail, according to the sheriff's office.

Coddington is currently housed in the Lyon County detention facility's maximum housing unit. Both deputies and Coddington were taken to the South Lyon Medical Center and were treated for minor injuries.

Suspect in vehicle chase from Carson City to Reno now in custody

A man suspected of eluding Carson City sheriff’s deputies in a Feb. 25 vehicle pursuit that began in Carson City but was called off for safety reasons after it was well into the Reno area, has been arrested, police said.

Arrested was Scott Hermens, 34. He was taken into custody at Walmart off Damonte Ranch Parkway in south Reno and faces multiple charges, including a felony eluding charge issued out of Carson City for the late night vehicle chase, said Carson City Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Humphrey.

Carson City DA-elect Woodbury names Kristin Luis as Assistant District Attorney

UPDATE: Carson City District Attorney-Elect Jason Woodbury announced Wednesday he will appoint Kristin Luis to be Assistant District Attorney. She will replace Mark Krueger who is now serving as assistant district attorney under Neil Rombardo.

Carson City man facing child porn charges arrested in Hawaii

A man who has been evading Carson City sheriff’s detectives for months and facing child pornography charges was arrested in Hawaii on Monday and will be extradited back to Carson City, according to the district attorney's office.

Patrick Jason Williams was arrested by Hawaii Island police on an extradition warrant.

Accused King Fire arsonist in South Lake Tahoe jail

Wayne Allen Huntsman, the accused King Fire arsonist, is sitting in the El Dorado Jail in South Lake Tahoe awaiting an Oct. 28 court date.

Huntsman was arrested Sept. 17 on felony charges of arson on forest land with a special allegation of arson with aggravating factors. He was arraigned Friday in Superior Court where he pled not guilty and transferred to the county jail in South Lake Tahoe. His bail remains at $10 million.

Toulumne County man indicted for starting 2013 Rim Fire

A 32-year-old Tuolumne County man, Keith Matthew Emerald, has been indicted on four counts of allegedly starting last year's 250,000-acre Rim Fire, the largest fire in the Sierra Nevada in recorded history. United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and U.S. Forest Service Pacific Southwest Regional Forester Randy Moore announced the indictment Thursday.

The Rim Fire, which burned for nine weeks and sent heavy smoke that choked Carson City, Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe air for weeks, included large areas in the Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite National Park.

UPDATE: The female driver sought for questioning in Tuesday's hit and run with a male pedestrian has been found and was interviewed by the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Charges have been referred to the Carson City District Attorney's Office. It will be up to the DA to decide whether to prosecute, according to a sheriff's office deputy.

A pedestrian was flown by Care Flight to the trauma unit at Renown Medical Center in Reno this afternoon after being hit by a car shortly before noon at Corbett and Stewart streets in Carson City. The vehicle sped away.

A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on a charge of sexual assault, according a criminal complaint filed by the Carson City District Attorney's Office.

John Allen Teifel was arrested at 6:14 p.m. in the 300 block of East William Street by a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team deputy after a warrant was issued earlier in the day for his arrest.

Assistant DA Mark Krueger to run for top Carson City District Attorney seat

Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger on Saturday announced his candidacy for Carson City District Attorney.

As Assistant District Attorney, Krueger has been second in command at the Carson City District Attorney’s Office since 2012 and leads a team of 22 professional and support staff.

“I have extensive experience working with city government and the criminal justice system,” he said. “Carson City needs an experienced prosecutor, civil litigator and team leader to fill the important role of District Attorney and I bring that to the table.”

A former Carson City Sheriff's Office accountant faces eight felony charges of embezzlement after allegedly stealing at least $100,000 of bail and search and seizure money over several years.

Laura Wissert, 44, is expected to turn herself into Carson City Jail today after an arrest warrant was issued by a judge. Her bail is set at $20,000. She has retained Noel Waters as her attorney, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
