The statistics are counted and Nevada Humane Society is proud to announce that their first full year in Carson City had a big impact on lifesaving, making Nevada’s capital city the second region to become a no-kill community in Nevada.

Here's to compassion and coming together to make a positive difference! Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) will be donating $200,000 to Carson City at the Jan. 21 Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting to help with the building cost of the new animal shelter.

CASI will continue its mission of fundraising to provide needed assistance for programs that reduce animal suffering, homelessness and pet overpopulation.

National Honor Society is hosting its winter blood drive. It will take place on January 28 in the library from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. It is open to community members.  Refreshments and a free cholesterol test is available with each donation. Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold his first “Breakfast with Brad” of 2016 on Friday, Jan. 8, from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to join Bonkowski for coffee and conversation.

You already know we here at Nevada Humane Society love to brag about our accomplishments and encourage you to support us in all of our lifesaving endeavors. But, what we probably don’t do enough, is offer up our gratitude to you, because without you, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

CASI and Benson's Feed team up to bring Santa and his elf for photo shoots with your pets. Bring your furry critters down to Benson's Feed at 2750 Hwy 50 in Carson City on Saturday, December 5th from 10 AM to 2 PM. The cost is $15 for one 4x6" print and a digital copy (emailed to you). Enjoy the magic of the season with your furry friends while helping to raise money for the new animal shelter. This Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 bring your Mutt or yourself and walk laps around the Carson Mall. Get sponsors to donate a set amount per lap. (or sponsor yourself). Strut your laps, collect the donations and we will send them to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center.

Dress crazy dress pink, this is think pink month for breast cancer awareness. Event will go from 11am to 3pm. Walk any time during that time frame. The Humane Society will be here with pet adoptions. CASI will be here seeking donations for the animal shelter.

Carson City will break ground on the new Animal Services facility today, at 9:30 a.m. Attending the ceremony will be Carson City Public Works officials, the City Board of Supervisors, Carson Animal Services Initiative, and representatives of the Nevada Humane Society. The facility will be located on Airport Road in Carson, just south of the intersection of Airport Road and Butti Way. The public is invited.

A couple weeks ago I received an email from a gentleman who I will call Joe. “Joe” said he has been visiting Carson City for over 30 years and liked it so much that he recently moved here from San Diego. He wanted me to know that now that he is a resident he thinks Carson City cannot continue growing or it will be ruined.

Carson City is going to the dogs this weekend.

“We’re showcasing that Carson City is a dog-friendly community,” said Lisa Schuette, president of the Carson Animal Services Initiative, which is raising money for a new and improved animal shelter.

Coinciding with Bonanza Kennel Club’s annual AKC Dog Show at Fuji Park on today and Sunday, CASI is organizing a weekend of activities for the pups.
The seventh annual Pooch Plunge will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today at the outdoor pool of the Carson City Aquatic Facility.

Carson City’s aging animal shelter will undergo scheduled maintenance and necessary repairs that will take approximately three to four weeks, leading to the temporary closure of the dog kennels at the facility. The cat adoption area, licensing, and main shelter will remain open as normal.

Our two dogs, TiMI and Adele, were getting ready to go on a big adventure this morning, near the intersection of Sierra Vista Lane and Rio Vista Lane.

Construction of Carson City’s new animal shelter should start soon due to the Board of Supervisors awarding a contract Thursday to build the $4.2 million facility.

Due to the high coyote activity around Riverview Park, the CASI 5K9 scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19 has been canceled.
